Hey guys. I've been off the radio for about about 8-9 years. My A99 is still up, but does not work. I have an IMAX 2000 on the way. Should i coat it with anything to protect it? We have rough winters here in Boston. Also do you guys recommend a 3ft tripod or a 5ft? with a 5ft mast? Being that its a 24ft antenna...last thing i need is to have it come crashing down on my neighbors house...Thanks for any info! |

I use a 3 foot tripod with my sigma that is on a 10 foot pole bringing overall height to about 52 feet. It is guyed in 4 places. North Wisconsin winters ain't exactly mild either.

Pbgrk5, if the a-99 has been up 8 or 9 years, seems to me like that may be a sutable mount for the I-2K.a 5 foot tripod and mast would work if properly installed.when assembling the 2K,lube the threads with a dielectric grease available at your nearest auto parts store. You can spray a coat of uv resistant paint(clear or colored)for longer life in the enviroment. tech291 CEF#291 kc8zpj |

Thanks for the info guys. The only reason why i'm not going to use the same tripod and mast, is because there is also a TV antenna on the same mast, which is also not straight. It's tilting. Since the 3ft tripod is ok, i'll stick with that. It will be at the peak of the roof. Plus My house is tall and im on a hill ;) |

not really i just bought the regular thompson water sealer.. i screwed it all together laid it on the ground on a blue canvas so i would not get grass stuck to it.. sprayed it an then proped it up to dry... nothing to fancy... i did the same to my old A99 an that last just under 17 years... an i suggest to do it every 2 years if possible.... but just make sure you put it together when you do it so the threads wont get glued together.. an try to stay away from the tuning rings an much as possible.. an when it is pretty dry still a little tacky, take it all apart for the same reason... an let it finish drying.. you should be golden.. |

can i use both the water sealer and UV resistant paint? I'm guessing i would have to do the paint first then the sealer... |
