Since the S-6 will not have sideband, will the am be more powerful than that of the S-9? I read that it would be available on 4-21-05. mikefromms |

Mikefromms, From my earlier post, and there will be no change in AM Power. Posted on Thursday, March 03, 2005 - 12:02 pm: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hotwire, This is Information that I received from Sam Lewis Owner of RF Limited / Magnum International. The Magnum S-6 AM/FM Radio is the Exact same radio as the S-9 without the SSB Feature. Differences between the Galaxy 66 and the Magnum S-6. #1 ~ S-6 has Large Round S/RF Meter instead of large rectangle meter. #2 ~ S-6 has built in bridge for high VSWR indicator "flashing light" (switch on rear panel disables bridge) (Galaxy does not have the bridge). #3 ~ S-6 has front mounted Microphone connector and "double barrel" connector located on right side of radio. Galaxy only has 1 side mounted microphone connector. #4 ~ S-6 is programmable from 25.615 ~ 30.555MHz (8 bands, Galaxy has 8 bands 25.165 ~ 28.765 Not Programmable. #5 ~ S-6 has single 8 position band switch. Galaxy has complicated 2-switch system. #6 ~ S-6 has 6 digit Blue frequency counter with channel LED's. Galaxy has 5 digit green frequency counter ands channel LED's. #7 ~ Both Galaxy and S6 have Variable LED dimmer controls. #8 ~ S-6 Clarifier has 5KHz total excursion, Galaxy clarifier has 10KHz total excursion which confuses radio operator. #9 ~ S-6 has Top Gun compressor/modulator; on AM power can be set at 1 watt and swing to 45 watts. Galaxy has no modulator and AM Power is 25 watts PEP. Both radios have Variable RF power control. #10 ~ S-6 has Turbo Echo and All Mode Talkback. Galaxy has conex type echo and AM only feedback type talkback. #11 ~ S-6 comes with Free "Old Glory" Patriotic front panel. Galaxy does not. #12 ~ S-6 comes packed with Full Schematic and PLO (Parts Layout). Galaxy has No technical information shipped with radios. Any functions not mentioned are the same in both radios. Hope this help's, Lon Tech808 CEF808 N9OSN

I believe the S-9 is advertised at 40-45Pep and the S-6 rated at 50? Or was that 40 and 45 respectivly? Either way..an upstate NY CB shop told me not long ago that he can get upwards of 60 out of the S-6 but you max the S-9 at 45 do to the sideband. Have NO idea how true all this is but thats what he told me. Also claims to swap transistors in the 95T to see between 225-250W PEP and stays cool to the touch. Again...no idea how true all this is but did invite me up to see either mod done. Pat? Up for a road trip? |

a friend experimented the heck out of an S9, 40-45 watts(depending on meter) was IT, reliably. that's all those dual finals are rated for. he increased heat sinking, rewired matching coils, volted, etc & got output to go over 60 watts. finals REFUSED to live long. so he tuned for max at 40 watts pep, got carrier up to about 10 & they SCREAM now. sure you could swap 2290's out of 95t for 2879's, wattage difference is not worth the aggravation(160 up to 240), 8 pill amp is ONLY way to get noticeable increase without taxing the amp. but you still have a GALAXY there's a reason that 148/XL type radios are the choice of the bigshots..., over a year since their introduction, the S9's appear to be gaining steam now. galaxy, connex, etc have their followers, but still not THE CHOICE |
