This radio has been out a while now and a few of you have owned them since the begining...care to give your long term thoughts? Thinking of one for the mobile...Space is getting hard to come by lately. Looking for LOUD and CLEAR Modulation to drive a lil 4 pill I just picked up. S-9 is very good but too noisey and just recently too LARGE for the Jeep. Was going to look into an S6 but perhaps Pat"00" is right...I may miss the sideband. Go ahead...talk me into it...I'm waiting.. Don't let that Galaxy get too comfortable in there! '905..."mobeeele" base station comming to skip~land near you soon. Hank '905

I could be wrong, but I was under the impression that the S6 and S9 are the same size?!? Any way, I have never had a 257 but i would bet they are GREAT! I have heard nothing but good about them, and I MEAN NOTHING!!! BC |

The 257 will fit your needs admirably. Loud and clear audio and a small footprint. Don't forget the price either.... |

Mag 257's are known for sounding "clean" mine paired up great with the amp. The radio gave clean excellent modulation and the amp did it's part. I was always impressed with my mag 257 |

The MAG-257 is a updated ver of the HTX-10 ham radio and is ONE HECK OF A SET. For CB it converts with one jumper and sounds GREAT on the air. |

Mine is killer! I have talked barefoot from coast to coast (live in central IL) on an Imax2000 20' up. It gets great audio reports, having presets is way cool. Despite what some few people say the included mic IS THE ONE TO USE, the speech processor goes a great job of keeping your modulation up. The only downsides I have found..... The blue display KILLS my eyes at night while driving (wrong end of the spectrum boys), someone here puts window tint over the display, there's a post. no retention battery, mine shuts off with the truck and when I stopped using the truck it will loose memory in about 3 days (not a problem now that it's a base!) This is good and bad... It's very feature rich, if you just use it for AM CB it's overkill. I recommend getting it in the house and playing with it for a while until you learn the keystrokes before you install it in the vehicle and try to navigate it while driving, it's not hard, you just need to know what to do when you put it in a mode you don't want to I also recommend that if you don't "freeband" setting it up for the 40 channel "e" band only, there's a jumper. This eliminates inadvertantly swiching bands and being able to select fine frequency mode. The power is the same just easier to operate. I would buy another! For the money it just don't get any better, compared to a Galaxy DX2547.... well it walks it! If you get it and the buttons on the mic being "backwards" bugs you I have a mod for that! Chad |

Out of stock at Copper? Seems like they have been out of stock for a while. Anyone know when they might come back in stock? Was hoping to get one for my B day next month. |

Hotwire, They are out of Stock at Copper because Magnum is also out of stock and does not have any to ship to the dealers. When Magnum has them back in Stock then so will Copper. Sorry but Copper ELectronics has No Control over what the Manufacturer has or is out of stock on. As soon and they become Available I will be very happy to make a post on it for the Copper Forum Members. Lon Tech808 CEF808 N0OSN |

I saw a Mag257 on a internet auction site just a few days ago... Now that I have a ham tix. I'm debating getting rid of my Magnum257 to get a 2m mobile. I've been thinking really really hard about this. Only thing is when I go "General" with 10M priv. I'll be able to use it as a 10M radio. I just know, I'll regret getting rid of it when I get the General Tix. Argh, choices choices....... K

Kennjen I would keep the 257. Its great you have your ticket now but just because you are a ham doesnt mean you cant be a cber too. Soon I will have my ticket as well but I would never give up on using the cb band because I have to many friends there. Do hams frown upon other hams that talk on the cb? It cant be! Lots of hams even on this forum are on the cb and even the Sunday net. Hey Fusebreaker, I have 2 of the Realistic HTX-100 10 meter radios. They are nice but I dont think they can be converted. Do you know? No AM or lower sideband so would not be worth the time anyway I guess. So they sit on a shelf collecting dust until I get off my lazy butt and get the ticket I been studying for over a year now. Have read all 3 radio shack books for tech, general and extra class so I should be ready. Heck maybe I can just jump to extra class? Yeah right! lol 73 Kenny |

Hey VanillaGorilla, I have both the new 257 (blue lights) and the older 257 (amber lights) and I love them both!! Great radio for the $$ and just the right size for the car and the truck. The newer made vehicles just don't give you much room anymore for "BIG" radios or for anything else. Oh Yea, and I was the one who put window tint on my blue 257 and it worked out real good when driving to the beach over Labor Day week end. It cut the glare down enough where it wasn't so "blinding" while driving at night. I do like the color blue though on the radio, it looks sharp. So I guess you could say I am very happy with both of mine, I just wished I had seen and ordered them earlier from Copper... TomCat in VA CEF217 |

Thanks for all the input here guys...I'll watch for them to stock up here on Copper. Tomcatinva...i window tinted behind the faceplate on both my mobiles a while ago...DEFINEITLY cuts the glare down from the sun as well. At least I can read the freq counter now without "cupping" it with my hands to see it in the bright sun. Looks cool when radio is turned off as well...blackout look. Hank '905 CEF 559 |
