I have a chance to get a "like-new" Azden 6 meter 50 watt FM mobile that was built back in the early '90s. Thing is, I've never owned one, and don't know anyone who has.

I've looked all over the internet, and the only thing I can find on this is an old review by the ARRL wherein they state that they like it.

However, I'm interested in finding out how it acts in the "real world." So, anyone out there know anything about this critter?

it'a not a bad radio but remember its FM ONLY!
SO if they want $50-$100 it might be worth it it they want $200 forget it.

Those Azden rigs are made VERY well. They were building radios to Mil-Spec years before any other amateur radio manufacturer. They made single band FM equipment when the rest of the industry ignored it - especially for 6 meter and 10 meter. Unfortunately they are out of the amateur business, but they still make stuff for the pro audio industry.

I've never owned one or known anyone who owned one either. They were always pretty expensive compared to comparable equipement and I didn't like the apparently large microphones. I would imagine they lack the goodies of more recently made gear, but if it's got what you need, you like how it works, and you get a price that you are comfortable with, I'd buy it.

Thanks for the advice, y'all!

I can get the Azden for a good deal. I didn't know they were so well made, but being that I'll put the radio in my wife's car, it needs to be ;-)

FM only is ok for my wife. She hates tuning VFOs. I'll probably set it up for 52.500 Mc or so and leave it there.

There are a only a few hams on 6 meters around here, so using the radio will be a good way to carry on a quiet and semi-private conversation.

Thanks again for the comments!
