Are tube amps like the KLV1000 affected by higher SWRs lets say 1.4:1 to 1.8:1 range or will they handle SWRs in that range. I know on my transister amp the manual says to keep my SWRs below 1.3:1 to use the amp. |

A tube amp is almost immune to SWR. Assuming the load is not overly capacitive, a tube amplifier (with tuning and loading controls) will likely be able to be closely matched to the load with ease. That is not to say it is O.K. to run that way, but no harm will come to the amp- IF (big IF) you tune it properly! Tune the plate tuning control for minimum plate current, NOT maximum watts! |

The KLV-1000 does not have a plate current meter, so that suggestion is not going to work very well. |

Then I suggest staying away from that one and choosing another that does have a plate current meter. |

Thanks Tech833, I will keep that in mind.. I was planning on buying on buying the KLV1000 from Copper but their price went up by $50 recently.....

It is still NOT a bad amp. Of course, I am referring to using it on ham bands, NOT CB. |

Cornbrown, did you ever test this amp? Is it easy tuned without plate current meter? I am thinking of getting the KLV400 base but running the 1000 by in my head too. I have a KL500 mobile that works great but dont want so many power supplies around, got four of them for radios and amp and want to just be able to plug in the wall outlet and sell power supplies. |

Get the KLV1000 you will be happy. I have been useing mine with no problems clean output.Put a good low pass filter on for good measure, Set your radio to key about 2.5 watts and swing to about 15 watts and should see about 700 peak watts on AM. I tune it on channel 20 middle of the band and can maybe talk 15 channels above and below Channel 20 without retuning.Very easy to tune. I sold the XForce box... too much powa for the HQ, and the thing bleeds. |
