Mikefromms, barring the power handling capabilities between the 2 antennas, all things being equal, it depends on the terrain (Flatlands, or city)?, elevation- (are you on a mountain, or in a valley)?, where the antenna is mounted on a vehicle (roof, trunk etc.)?, are you talking during skip conditions (Day), or at night?. There are so many variables from installation to condition's. But, to answer your post, I'd go for the taller of the 2 antennas. You can talk barefoot with a coat hanger, if mother nature cooperates. Do a "Search", for the thread "55 gallon drum lids for ground planes". Interesting "Homebrew" thread for innovator's, as far as mobile antenna installs. Final verdict, go with 3k for your peace of mind, and just in case you might want to use some "fire in the wire", in the future. But you'd better get a 3-pad or quad -pad mount to keep her from blowing off your vehicle (5 ft of winloading) . Hope this helps. Wolverine. |

Got bunches of antennas. I'm thinking about the Astatic 1k or 3k. I don't use anything but the Galaxy dx 95T in the car; so, I figured the 1k would do the job. I'm studying the predator 10k and the Astatics right now. I would get the tri-mag mount for sure! Thanks, mikefromms |

i've given up on mikefromms, wolverine. let him go with his lil ole 95t. but i still like him anyways. he's on COPPER FORUM, right?! HOWEVER, mike(hope all's OK in your corner of MS), i've posted NUMEROUS times regarding my astatic 3k experiences...LOVED it! just doesn't handle ANYWHERE near 3kw before going POOF. 2 of 'em. back to my predator 10k. BOTH require 3-mag mount. or duct tape. SWR's on diamond sx100 DO NOT MOVE with predator. bird shows reflect of 1%. over 800+ khz of bandwidth. astatic was GOOD, but NOT that good, & that easily obtained. i've heard all the 102" whip stories. i'll stick with my predator 10k 22" shaft double coil. thankyou... vanillagorilla requested photographic evidence that my baby pickup truck exists-as if he never heard it-will see what i can do over the weekend |

How about a copper electronics product, like the 10k 7' adjustable knight stick with the 4-pad mega-magnet mount or a ball mount on the roof and rg213 type cl-2 to your 95t.Bigbob |

Every time I see your avatar, or is it called an icon, with the galaxy radio crossed out, I bust a gut. . What did a galaxy ever do to you. . Wolverine. |

I sure like my Galaxy dx 95T and Roadmaster Z-180 in my car. I've found a winning combination. I'd like to try an Asatic 3k before buying one to see if it will outperform my z-180 in my case. I think it would be a tall order. The Z-180 has consistently outtalked my Wilson 1000. Sorry, to report this or burst any bubbles. It surprised me too! Mikefromms |

Well Mikefromms, as the old saying goes, "Whatever floats your boat". Glad to see that that antenna works for your winning combination. . Wolverine. |

I wish you guys could hear my Galaxy DX 95T with the Z-180. You'd be impressed. I don't hear "come back on that" said much any more. It's working better than my old setup of a radio with an amp. I guess the 95T is tuned up at the factory just right. Everyone says to leave this antenna alone; that, it makes my set up sound like a rolling base station. If I ever get another mobile antenna I'll try the Astatic 3k but the more I use the z-180 the more I like it. mikefromms |
