I must say it was not what I was expecting at all. Does this thing really work? For as light weight as it is I was thinking what if I used a tripod roof mount and put it directly centered on top of my roof up about 15' and used the guy wires to each corner of the house. Would this work? If so then I could put the new Maco V-5000 where I had planned on this one going and neighbors problems no more. Tim CEF-634 (Contact Soon - I can feel it) |

i think thats a great idea. i would love to have the option to choose between those two antennas. that being said, the v5/8 is the better antenna in my opinion, and if you could just put it by the shed you'd save some money. the top one does work. dont let the small box fool you. when you assemble it, it is 12 foot tall to the radials. make sure you use the ox-guard or penetrox on all the mating surfaces. aluminum oxidizes and can form a sort of "shell" that degrades the conductivity. if it's humid where you live it happens faster. putting the goop on will assure a low SWR for years to come. i know i sound like a broken record. if you can put that top one on the roof like you posted, use it for a while before you buy the v5/8. you might just be very pleased with the performance you get.

Yes, the Top One works good. But, your Maco V-5000 will be stronger on transmit and recieve. Yes, if you use 10ft or over of mast, guys should be used. Get a 5 ft tripod if you can. JIM/CEF 375 |

I received my Top One also (always great service and quick shipping from Copper). I haven't had the time to prep, install and test it. This forced overtime, 10 hr days, thirteen on and one off, really cuts into play time. |

...and if you already own a Top One; there is a pretty decent thread titled, "top one at 44' to the tip". it was started by some know-it-all golden screwdriver by the name of kid vicious.LOL but the info is good. matt |

I liked the Top One best 10' to the boom over open earth. Amazing. If you get both antennas (top one, V-5000), you will have broadband coverage (low swr) with the Top One and good performance and maybe even better performance on the cb channels with the Maco V-5000. It really depends on how you mount the antennas as to performance. The V-5000 is not as broadbanded per the forum members experiences. mikefromms |
