Will need more info.than posted, are you running it base or mobile, what antenna are you using? Has the 2SC2999 receive RF amplifier transistor mod. been done? This transistor change is a big plus. I personally run a Grant XL base with a 23 DB receive preamp in line, and the transistor change has been done and somewhat quiets the static noise floor and increases the incoming signal, to a readable signal that was once in the static level. Your Grant XL also needs to be in proper alignment, both receive and transmit. Carl CEF-357 |

the transistor yankee is referring to is TR14. replace it with a 2SC2999 or NTE107 for a 6db increase in receive signal to noise ratio. then take the transistor you removed from the TR14 spot and put it in place of TR19 to upgrade the SSB detector. matt |

Matt: The TR for transistors are now labeled as Q on the newer printed circut boards. Therefore on the Grant XL or LT it would be Q14 and Q19. TR for transistors goes all the way back to the first models of the Cobra 148 and 2000 GTLs. Carl |

thanks carl, my 2000 says TR and my 148 says Q. i just use the TR term because i think it sounds less confusing to others that might not know what Q stands for. glad to know why there's a difference though.

Well after having two back surgeries since December, I finally felt like putting my radio equip. in my jeep.It took me one day to do the antenna, and it's taken another three days to get to the point of powering everything up. I bought one of those noise suppressors for the radio that everyone was on about and I installed it. I turned power on and everything worked except the radio. It seems that my power pins were slightly larger than the ones in the suppressors. The suppressor pushed the pins in on the radio. While i was tinkering with the connector there was a pop, it blew the power fuse. I took the cover off and pushed the pins back out where they should be and put the connector on while I had the cover off. Iput the cover back on went out to power the radio up and it did not work. I was very tired after being in the Florida sun all day, so I have quit for the night. (At this point I know the power fuse is good and that the radio is getting power) The radio is a super star gold face 3900, with all the bells and whistles. My question is finally, do any of you all know what I could look forin the radio that would keep it from coming on. I do have some electrical\electronic background so I am somewhat capable of cking anything you all might comeup with. I do not see anything toasted either. I know this is a bit long but I will appreciate any help given, I might even let ya swim in my pool, if you bring the ribs and beans! |

I don't know what I did so ignore my last message here on this thread. I have started a new thread for my problem. Being tired and on prescription pain meds cause ya do not pay attention to detail. |
