Hello, I would like to install a KL-40 with my radio. I will buy the amp from you but was wondering what modifications are needed to the radio (Cobra 75WX-ST) and how to do it. Thank you Don |

The most importand rule with the little KL's is to lower the radios dead key to 1 watt. I drive my KL-60 with 1 to 1 1/2 watts DK and also have a cooling fan on the top of it. They will last if you treat them right and not over drive them. |

The 75WX-ST is a tough one to mod for a lower dead key. I would recommend going with the KL300P and leaving the power switch on LOW all the time, this will give you a 40W dead key and swing to around 125-150 with good power wiring. I have tried this with this amp and radio, it worked well, that little sensitivity switch on the KL300 is a LIFESAVER! thanks RM! BTW, Isn't that a great little radio? Try it with an external speaker and it's just FANTASTIC for sports cars and limited space environments. Didja know, if you hold down the M1 key for a loonnngg time it will give you freq inmHz instead of channel number! Chad

Fusebreaker On my KL-60 (which has the same rm-3 final as the KL-40) If i lower my radios Deadkey to 0.8 watts it will key up the amp at 16 watts swinging to 30-32 on an auuuudio check. Great little amps if you want just a little helper from time to time. |

Thank you for your help. I think I will go with a KL300P. I could mount that under the seat. Jeep Cherokee's have very litle free space to mount a radio, this radio was perfect. I installed an external speaker awhile back, even better. Again thank you for the advice. Don |
