To increase the received signal 1 S unit the power needs to be increased 4 times (a 6 dB increase). That assumes that the receiver has been properly calibrated - which it probably hasn't - and there is nothing in between the two antennas that could interfere with the signal. If there is a hill between the two then your actual results could and probably will vary a great deal. So if you increase the carrier from 4 to 64 watts the increase will be 2 S units and from 4 to 1024 would be 4 S units. To increase the signal 8 S units you would need to use a carrier of 262,144 watts. To hear someone well their signal only needs to be slightly above the background noise level. Using more wattage than that is not necessary, a waste of power, and added pollution to the already crowded airwaves on the 11 meter spectrum. |

double your power, then double it AGAIN, & you will have a 1 S-unit increase. continue the process for more S-units oh-that's what bruce said or just be safe & run 10 or 15 thousand watts all the time sorry |
