Okay,
I have noticed that on ebay an english company is advertising the KL 203 for use with QRP rigs such as the FT 817 (which I have). Now I have done some research on the RM Italy site and certain KL amps DO cover the 10-30 mhz range, and I don't mean the official 1.8-30 switching ham amps. The 203 is advertised as covering the 10 to 30 mhz range, so I am wondering if anything needs to be done on the shortout pins for this? I have it converted to cover 27 mhz BUT now I have full HF priveledges I want to use it on 20, 15,17,12 and 10 mtrs when I need some more power. Also I have the KL 550 base amp is this advertised as covering 10-20 mhz. It's very interesting though, if you check their manuals on line for these amps,(it's a pdf file that opens of the manual), there are 2 instruction files with one having USA in it's header. Now the USA pdf manual copy shows amp only covering 10-20 mhz, where as the other generic pdf manual is exactly the same EXCEPT frequency coverage says 20-30 mhz? mmmmmmm..... Obviously they are the same amps (apart from operating voltage of each country that varies) BUT to get around the FCC they put coverage as 10-20 mhz. SO, my question to any techs, or hams who have used either of these amps on other ham bands, is will they cover 10-30mhz with the conversion done for 27 mhz. Oh, interestingly the KL 500 (which I also have) apparently covers 1.8-30 mhz! Has anyone tested this out?
I would prefer answers that do not quote the manuals please as I have already exhausted this avenue, I need some hands on info!
Cheers
Andrew

Sixtiesmania,

I have never tried this or know of anyone who has so I cannot offer any help on your question.

I do know if the Amp has been converted to operate on 11 meters you do loose the full frequency coverage that it was designed to operate on.

Sorry not much help,
