I was at one of the local CB shops yesterday to get a new antenna. I noticed the tech in the back seemed to have a signal generator, ossiliscope, etc, tons of test equipment. I would think this is a sign that maybe they are not just a nother "hack and wack" type shop, you think I'm right? Any way while I was there I noticed a Ranger AR3500 with a $60.00 price tag! I asked the guy to make sure and he said yeah! 60 bucks. He said everything is working on it! Correct me if I am wrong but isn't this supposed to be one of the best exports ever!? And don't they tend to sell for around 300 bucks? I think I am gonna pick it up unless you guys tell me different. I have never even used one but I know Pat swears buy his. BC |

For $60.00 grab it quick, the only one I know of for sale is $100.00. And so you'll know the microphone wiring is the same as Midland. Carl CEF-357 |

I'm always in the wrong state at the right time and not enough cash to grab deals like this., although I would give the guy some cash and make arangements to hold it for me. Carl CEF-357 |

OK I GOT THE RADIO!!! I am happy with it all seems to work well except... 3 of the buttons don't work they are the 1k, 10k, 100k (down) buttons. I can’t seem to find why they aren’t working but then again I'm no tech and am not good reading schematics! My common sense says that since they all are right next to eachother on the board that something (maybe a common ground) is somehow disconnected. They feel "right" when pushed but I can't find my ohm meter to see if the switches them selves are bad but if I had to guess, I would say no. I would definitely appreciate any help possible! Here's some links to schematics http://www.qsl.net/kf2tz/skemma1.html http://www.qsl.net/kf2tz/skemma2.html Pat, you should know this radio better than most here maybe you can help... Any one of the techs maybe?... All I know is all is working and it is functional without those buttons but it would be a lot nicer if they worked... Any way here is the scoop, The case is old and the paint is coming off But the face is near perfect The physical appearance of the inside of the radio seems to show no apparent evidence of "hacking" It is the 30 watt model It does about 25 watts on AM And about 30 on SSB I set it to key at 1.5 and swing to 25 on AM There is no speech processor or scan board which if I am not wrong means it’s an older one I have made 3 good contacts so far with 3 good reports my end and their's That's all I can think of BC PS PLEASE HELP!!!

the ar3300 & 3500 are the same. same mods, same everything, except the 3300 used even crappier switches then on the 3500! mine were replaced once, the 10kc button, natuarally. the only reason i don't say AR3500AR3500AR3500AR3500AR3500AR3500AR3500AR3500 is because it neither flows off the tongue as well nor is as easy to type as S9S9S9S9S9S9S9S9S9S9S9S9S9S9S9S9....anyway, that said, from some of my 1st posts here, thru right now, i LOVE my 100 watt AR3500 even more then my S9. it needed NO mods, other then freq mods. i emailed you some other info, bc. |

the 100 watt AR3500 with it's 40+ watt baby brother, the S9. and the AR3500 100 watt, all by itself. this AR3500 had ALL the options when bought brand new in the mid/late '80's, 2 x 2290 100 watt amp(keys 30-75 & swings 160-180)added off the rear, speech processor, variable power board, & mic with freq up & down. it cost $600 with shipping way back then.(i was neither married nor had kids then) AND IT HAD NO ECHO, TALKBACK OR ROGER BEEP! 5 second solder job & it covers 26-29.999, programming from front controls will key up down into 24 mHz region, & receive much lower. glare & waviness on front of radio is from factory plastic-a bit chopped around mic connector-BUT IT'S STILL THERE! S7 signal showing on meter is from lt columbo/mobile by the brooklyn bridge, 55 or more miles from me, through the DX noise, better signal strength then on any of the other radios on bench right now, & every bit as readable, if not more so! though it does bring in more noise then the S9...he heard every word i said to him, keying 35/swinging 120+... |
