A friend of mind is sending me his Cobra 1000 gtl to be fix,he says it will rx but not tx ... now I'm not much of a fixer up when it comes to radio but with a good teaching I can just about fix anything ...So is this the finals gone out or just a audio chip gone bad? or am I playing in the wrong feild altogether?
guess what I'm really asking is can this be fix and be worth fixing... if my friend can get this radio fix cheap he's going to become a cef member and jion us all in the sunday nets other wise i'm going to set him up with a set for around $300.00

Till next time

I'd bring it to that shop you told me about, if you have not done so already.

starface, i think that radio is like the cobra 29ltd on the inside.

get out your vom and check the voltage at the driver, then the final, just make sure there is voltge present.
if so, then just buy a new audio chip. they are only 3.00.
if not, get new driver, final, and audio chip.
less than 15.00 for all.

install new parts and give the transmitter a tune up.

if the wattmeter shows absolutely ZERO watts out even with modulation, then i would suspect a bad elec. cap. (can be hard to find out which one)

dont forget to rebias the driver and final when you replace them.
driver is 25ma
final is 50ma

hope this helps, these are all just guesses.

they are a nice radio and worth fixing.
if the radio ends up being a basket case, i would like to buy it for parts, or just the meters and knobs.

hope it works but if it doesnt...
matt
