Why isn't the Omega Force the top of the line for magnum rather than the S-9? It looks like the Omega Force has more features. What make the s-9 better?

mikefromms-i have a DELTA FORCE-looks-wise, it is EXACTLY the same radio as the OMEGA. mobile operation-wise, the S9 is 100 times easier to operate. it's microprocessor controlled & uses menu-type operation, like some of the ham rigs. not as much, but try to drive & hit the function button & hold another button for 1-3 seconds, or only hit another momentarily to change freq span, bands, modes etc. from what i see & hear, the omega has been added to my wish list. should it perform as i understand it will, the delta will be finding itself attached to a for sale sign. the delta DOES suffer from excessive white noise, though its receiver is every bit as sensitive as my S9's. i can hear the same signals at the same level from either radio, but when it is QUIET, i have to make sure the antenna switch is connected to the S9, no such problem with the delta-SHHHHHHH. i understand that situation has been resolved with the omega. if it is as quiet as my S9, with the new double barrel 6 & 4 pin mic connectors, blue liting, etc etc, & $50 or so price difference, it just could be BETTER then the S9-for BASE ONLY use, mobile & driving, i don't think so. THAT is it's only sticking point in my mind. til then, it's STILL

I was thinking about the memory channels. That is nice, and I think the thing scans too.

Yes it scans. It is a awesome radio as a base or in the mobil. You do not have to touch a button in a normal days use of the radio. The memory and function channels can be easily used while driving and I use them daily with no more effort than I put into pushing the pre-sets on my stereo so if you can do one (and I know you all do) then you can just as easily do the other.
In terms of features and flat out performance of the Omega both on the quiet sensitive hear everything receive and big dog transmit both on AM and SSB (key your mic and you are heard, period. I like that.) and when you look at cost the Omega is easily for the price the #1 export you can buy.
Post another radio with it's features performance and price.
You can't.

I didn't think any other radio had more features. It makes me think of the Magnum 257 only with more power and even more good features.

Right now I'm still eyeing the Omega Force, but I'm also eyeing the Cobra 200GTL. They are due out right about now or sometime this month. This is a very attractive and very powerful radio. I'll make my mind up in a day or two.

Ok S-9 owners, it's your turn.

Oh, for the record everyone, I bought a used (of course) Turner Super Sidekick and it kicks on my Galaxy DX 95T.

I know someone who owns a S-9 AND a Omega Force. He has used them both extensively and he cannot tell the difference in the tx audio and receive between the two. He raves about both of them and loves them both. He does point out that the Omega is cheaper and has more features.
No diss to the S-9 at all. It is a smoking radio with an unbeatable appearance.

Does anyone know what causes the memory on my S45 to be erased, and the radio to go back to the factory default settings, if I don't use the radio for more than a day or so? Is there a memory battery inside or something else I should look into?

Patzerozero - You thoughts about the Delta Force and Omega Force are similar to what I heard about the Chipswitched HR2510 for years. Some folks like a radio with lots of features and some prefer a simpler radio.

I have still not found a radio I prefer to a Chipswitched HR2510 for heavy use. The customization available is just awesome. For casual use I can understand why someone would prefer a simpler radio.

RE:Cobra 150 GTL DX - I bought one and I think it's a good AM/FM radio. But as I don't use AM, I really haven't used it much other than to check the radio out. For FM I rarely stray from my Chipswitched HR2600.

i was gonna put my delta in the mobile originally. the early receiver problems & tricky operation helped to nix those plans. when i was deciding on a replacement for the delta, i'd heard the omega had MANY improvements, xmit & rcv. then the S9 came out, its more straightforward operation & the fact that its xmit & rcv were supposed to be basically the same-and better then the delta sold me on it. i still would like to add an omega to the fleet, for base use at least.
you say you 'think the cobra 150 is a good AM/FM radio'-that is the MOST i have heard about it here or elsewhere. not a very rousing endorsement, i'd say. when i was deciding S9 or omega(here & elsewhere) it was a free for all to sell each to me. they DID HAVE rousing endorsements.
and after all my hundreds of posts, my grant XL is still in the mobile

The Omega can be operated the same way you can operate a simple radio. You never have to touch the buttons if you don't want to, it functions just like any other radio without it's features, squelch, mic gain, channel change etc, etc. Now if you want to go off of the main 40 instead of twisting a dial you simply push a button. That is just as simple if not easier when you are driving which I never do but I could if I wanted to, either way you have to look down to see where you are.
Now when you want the radio to start strutting it's stuff and impressing you with all of it's sweet added features then you start pushing buttons and there you are, again simple.
The Delta is not as easy to operate as the Omega that is true, I have had a Delta and should have never sold it but it was a good deed to a local with not a lot of money and he loves me to this day for it. The Omega is not a improved Delta, it is the ultimate Export for the price.
If they are talking you can hear them whether the conditons are quiet or not and that includes brutal middle of the day channel 19 hash or dead quiet middle of the night dead frequency. Transmit and you are THE big dog on the channel, you are heard, loud, proud and clear regardless again of what is going on around you. I like that.
