Copper wants 30 bucks to convert and peak this radio. What gets done during this process?

Are there any mods available for this radio like there are for the (uhm hmm) Galaxy radios? And swing mod or whatever?

What does the Top Gun Modulator do? Will a 636L work well with this radio? Will Copper take it back if I don't like it? Will Pat and BC go in half together and buy it from me if Copper won't take it back.

Thanks!

hey, porkchop, just heard my son on my S9 with the shure 526t desk mic. 12 watts dead key, 40+ watts swing. about 3.5 miles away. . LOUD enough to shake the table speaker next to my buddy's cobra 2000. crystal clear, no hint of distortion to my ears, or the other 5 people listening. they all thought it was every bit as loud, if not louder then my XL. had nobody located where we could key against, but on ch 19 had no trouble keying over trucks roughly 2 miles away.
backing down to 3 watts dead key made less then 1/2 S-unit difference, swing & loudness didn't appear to change at all. gonna have to try my davemade again!

Well until today, I didn't know what a Top Gun modulator was. I have all 6 digits on my S9 right out of the box on AM. So what is up with that? I was told JP4 being removed will cause this, but I saw the guy open the box, I didn't see him remove anything....

I have two S9's and each was different. The first one had all six digits out of the box, and the second , I had to remove the jumper to get all six. Both radios were new in the box.

Capt205,

Did you purchase both radios at the same time from the same place and did you have the same things done to them when you ordered them?

The only difference was the jumper JP4 was left in place on one of them.

Tech 808...I bought them both from the same place, but not at the same time. You guy here on the board helped me figure it out....it was jp4 left in place. Took it out and all was good.

Am I to understand that if I remove jumper JP4 I will then have 6 dig freq counter on AM mode and not just SSB?
If so..do I remove it or relocate it someway?

Thanks in advance~

From what I understand I beleve that the JP4 jumper is completly removed, giving you the six digit frequency counter in all modes. Somebody please correct me if I am wrong

Can I ask a stupid question?

If everyone removes it to get the 6 digit counter then why is it even there???

to justify the XXX.99 (99cents) part of the price! why else?
they probably figured most CBers would be happy with 5 digits & the 2 hams that buy 1 for 10 meters would use 6 digit

I know I am very new at this. I will take some time to get used to these two Galaxy DX99V radios and get my license. Then I hope to move them to the other cars and get maybe a S9 for my Truck and some kind of real base station.

My wifes gonna kill me...

Seems like the S9 is the hottest radio on the market right now - or at least from what I gather from all these posts about it. I will have to have Copper do the tune up work to it as I have not even looked inside a radio yet. Scary Huh. . .

the difference between a GALAXY 99 & an S9 is like night & day! you'll find the receive of the S9 is so much quieter & you'll hear people you never knew existed. talkpower is also better on the S9.(the omega force is VERY CLOSE to the S9 for about $60 less. i feel it's a bit tricky to operate when mobile, & the S9 is more straightforward/CB-like. for a base, to save some bucks, the omega may be the way to go. overall rcv & xmit performance of the omega should be EXACTLY the same as the S9)
