I had a chance to buy a new D104. In my travels last week, I stopped in a cb shop on interstate. They still had a D 104 with just the stem handle to key up, and it had the grey base. they wanted a $104 for it. Did I mess up by not buying it? Keith |

Lon, I might have confused everyone. I am talking about the full size desk mike, the "lollipop" D 104. Keith |

Keith, No you didn't mess up by not buying it, that price is very high for a TUG-8 or TUG-9 D-104. $35.00-$40.00 would be a more correct price tag for that type of D-104. I have a like new TUG-8 with the 10-DA head that I got off an Internet auction and didn't pay near what they want for the one you found. The Astatic 10-DA head is very hard to find that is not pitted on the chrome plateing, mine is like new with no pitting. Year before last I went to the local ham fest and there were 2 10-DAs with ratty looking bases and they had a $75.00 price tag on them. I said thanks, but no thank you. Carl CEF-357 |

This is a brand new d 104 with the lollipop head and the grey base. I figured he has it marked up more than usual due to fact of these are no longer made. I have a super sidebander, figured I could always change out heads. Or would it work like that? Keith |

It should work like that Keith, if it's an amplified base. I've seen a lot of unamplified D104s for sale now that Astatic isn't making D104s anymore, and the unamplified microphones really don't work well with newer radios. |

New or not, it still isn't worth $104.00. If it's just the head you're interested in keep your eye on the Internet auctions, and yes, they do interchange and the D-104 "lollipop head" as you call it will make the Super Sidebander into a Silver Eagle. I have both heads also a Silver Eagle and the D-104 head has higher pitched and stronger audio to give the microphone more punch when operating in pile ups. Carl CEF-357 |
