i just ordered the Magnum 257. outstanding reviews here on the forum. Price performance winner. Do a search. No first hand experiance but S-9, and 95t seem to be getting most of the press here. 95t has the power. s-9 has good talk power but 95t has raw watts. Magnum 257 has 30watts peak S-9 45w 95t 100+ |

Get a Connex 4800. You wont be disapionted. Mine is capable of near 70 watts. It is one of the best SSB exports around and not to bad on am also. now that my Imax is near 60 feet up I have really discovered how sensitive the recieve is. Oh and loud clean audio. You just need to try it yourself. |

The S-9 is a nice set. It will go perfectly with the Texas star 500. You might check out the Galaxy 95T if you are looking for a high power rig. Hotwire, You need to try a new meter. The (stock)Connex 4800 wont to anymore than 40 watts or so. You have some problems with that radio if its doing near 70 |

Wouldn't it be nice to have that kind of problem, though? Now if Connex would put a read s-unit meter on their radios. Why the old timey-tiny meters? They all look alike. mikefromms |

been real busy this week, so for bigbob & those of you who missed it, here it is- S9S9S9S9S9S9S9S9S9S9S9S9S9S9S9S9S9S9S9S. all depends on the budget & what you're aiming for, grumpy. the lincoln is a fair competitor to the S9, as is the texas ranger 296-a clone of the long since defunct grant XL. you're going to get decent talkpower out of both on SSB, & real good talk out of the grant on AM. the Xl/296 is about as close to receive quality of the S9 that you're gonna find, though i suppose the lincolns' is close too. connex...well it was on my 'check it out' list before i purchased the S9. i have NO regrets getting the S9 over the 4800. as for galaxy....trying to word this 'PG', MAYBE and only just MAYBE the 95t if you don't care about receive quality, sensitivity, selectivity, etc, and sure it has 150 watts or so, yeah, the AM screams, but, galaxy has more then it's fair share of detractors-those who do not like galaxy-quality AM or SSB. it has it's place in the cb world-just not on my desk or in my mobile!. i'd even consider the magnum omega force over galaxy, rci, connex. mind you, i own & use an S9, as well as a magnum delta force. EXCELLENT radios. my most used mobile is my grant XL, my most used base is my icom ic735. the S9 does get used just a bit more then my AR3500. when something works i stick with it. when my XL becomes unrepairable someday(hopefully NOT but...) then & only then will the S9 replace it fulltime. side by side, the S9 outperforms the XL xmit & rcv-BAREFOOT. my XL is MATCHED PERFECTLY to my skiptalking mobile & it's davemade & predator, that's why the S9 finds it hard to get airtime. i say there is no finer CB/export on the market today then the magnum S9-go for it!!! PHEW! 70 watts on a 4800!!! time to back the needle off on the wattmeter |

No my 4800 is not stock I have a good tech and its 68 watts PEP. I checked and I did not find any 2sc1969 finals, only c2312,33ad-c and c2166. I know the S9 is a good radio no doubt. I have heard a few local and never any working DX on SSB. The ones I heard local I swear to you I was not impressed. I cannot tell any difference between an S9 or any other radio in its price range. I'm not saying 4800 is any better, I like it because its a long time depenable radio easy to use and no extra junk besides the echo. I will say that I have never heard an export as good as the 4800 on SSB. Since I have my Imax at 60 feet now I hear stations at distances that are amazing. Any good radio will perform right if the operartor is skilled. Of course all this is opinions and my opinion is |

Put some matched finals in place of the ones you have, preferrably 2312's matched and see what it does.... |

Well it's got the freq. coverage I wanted and no frills like r.beep, swr, echo(what a waste of room),now if they made this radio exactly like it is plus a 6-digit freq. counter and 2 2312c finals, then I would get it,it looks like it has a tighter reciever than galaxy, still why do you need a 6 khz wide filter when all you really need is 1.5 to 2,these filters must have come from the same factory by the trainload,80db at 18 khz that's as wide as queen mary's dress, how about 6db at 2 khz and 80db at 7.5 khz, what's wrong with that, then plus a channel guard, wooeee, that would be the berries. |

'Patzerozero, does magnum make a base exactly like the S-9?Bigbob'-we can only WISH bigbob! the S-3200B isn't even close. i've wanted an AR3500 base for 15+ years & an S9 base since i got my S9! maybe someday, but til then i'll make do with my ic735 & maybe even replace the tubes & realign my ft101e for old times sake! |

I'd love tighter filters in radios too. I'm not sure what you mean by only a 1.5 to 2 KHz filter. AM is about 6KHz wide, and SSB is about 2.4 KHz. Depending on the shape factor of the filter you should have that bandwidth at -6dB so you don't miss anything. You can replace the filters in most radios, but you have to get the impedance, frequency, and bandwidth right. I've read about modifications doing just that, but it's pretty expensive to get better filtering into a radio. Kiwa has a filter that would improve the AM adjacent channel selectivity in most radios and it's basically a direct replacement for the existing filter. They also sell a board that would allow you to switch between the stock filter and the tighter filter at will. Together they're nearly as expensive as the radio itself to do that modification though. The Channel Guard filters are a great and inexpensive option and they really do make a noticeable difference. In addition you can get some control over the IF gain in the radio which is similar to an RF gain control but it happens at a differnt place in the receiver chain so the effect is slightly different. I'd like to see a filter similar to the Channel Guard filters, but using crystal lattice filters instead of monolithic filters so the shape factor would be much sharper. |

Has anyone ever tried the s-6 yet? If so what do you think of it? |
