I'm going to preface this by saying that my wife does not care for CB antenna's..... She tolerates tasteful ones, I stress tolerates.
Vacation is coming up. Last year I took along a handheld CB with headphones to get traffic reports, etc. Actually it saved us about 2 hours. Because of this she agreed to let US take along a real mobile. I was planning on taking the 257, a headphone pad and a mag mount antenna for the durango. She loves to drive, I read maps and tend to the kid. I will end up driving 25-33% of the tome so no grief about the headphones 
What would be a good, inexpensive mag mount that will work well, no DX, maybe try a few CEF contacts but nothing big?
I was kinda looking at the little wil but did not know if there was anything I needed to know. I would like to spend less than 40-50 bucks.

About all the little will is good for is clubbing rattle snakes,unfortunatley for you the wilson 1000 is both somewhat austentatious and pricy about 70$,BUT compared to my 4 magnet mega-mag and 6" spring and either a 60 inch wilson silver load or 102" ss whip,it's almost hidden.Women,they gripe,that antenna looks awful and it cost WHAT???!!,but think nothing of racking up a 250$ cell phone bill,what is wrong with their heads(1st seargent is excluded from this description). |

I bought a Little Will several years ago, and use it on the trunk lid of my wifes Impala when traveling on vacation. I have had great results with it, and think it's a great antenna for the money.

Although I must agree with Bigbob, I will admit that I own a Wilson Little Wil for the wifes car. Same thing, only used for our many cross country trips where I am driving my big truck with a big antenna, and she reluctently puts an antenna on her car.
The Little Wil has worked more than adequate for "THAT" situation. For yours, place it dead center of the roof of the Durango and it will do you well. SWR's fall right in line and it's non-intrusive. Performance is quite fair from such a small antenna.
And get yourself a 1/8" mono to stereo plug and you will receive in both ears of your headphones just like stereo. Cost about $5 or less for it.

i have the anttron 1700 and think it a very good antenna,good swr on all 40 channels,not a bad price

I plan to pad the headphone send down a tad. I'm using the same design that Galaxy incorporates in the DX2547. Just a simple resistor L-Pad, should fit right into a switchcraft 131 stereo inline jack.

Just one more thing,those cheap centerloaded mag-mounts like the KRACO about 2 feet tall are very narrow banded,can be set to 1.5 swr at freq. you want,but only that freq.,and are about 30$-antenna and coax. |

The Anttron 1700 is about the broadest banded mobile antenna I've ever used. It's a bargain at $17.

Chad, go with the wilson 1000 it will work great with that radio. Remember if you have a $150 dollar radio or a $250 dollar radio or even a $500 dollar radio an a $20 dollar antenna you now own a $20 dollar radio. Some people try to save money on the most important part of a radio system. |
