Ok I have a Royce 642 AM & SSB base. How do I wire a turner + 2 transistorized mic to the radio?? I know it has switch on the bottom of the mic.I think it's for relay but I don't know what the other was. Sorry. Any input would be great. Thank you # 111 Len So, Minnesota Hope you all have a great Christmas and a Happy New Year. |

Ok 307 I looked at it and it does not have a blue wire. It has Red,White,Black,Shield. It also has electronic and relay switch on the bottom. Now how would I hook this up?? I hooked up this way but will not key up when I did key up instead of going up like when talking it goes down. I think the modulation wire back wards. What do you think?? 1 Red 2 Black 3 Shield 4 White Witch wire would be for modulation? Red or black. Any help would be great. Thank you Len |

Len: The old turner mikes were reversed than most others, the wire codes are. White = Audio Red = Receive Black = Transmitt I have one of the old Turner wiring books, but the 642 is not listed, some of the other 600 series SSB/AM models wire like this: 1. White 2. shield and Red 3. Black 4. no connection The switching is Relay, switch on the bottom should be on "R", but you can try this both ways. I do have the tune-up for it if you want to 'adjust' a little: Modulation: VR7, or remove TR6 AM Power: L3, L2 SSB Power: VR 11 I'll look some more for that mike wiring if this doesn't work, I liked those old Royce radios. I don,t know 307 and scrapiron I am about to give up on her. I have tryed it 307's way and scrapiron's way but failed relay and electronic. I tryed to wire it up a different way though 1-Black 2-Ground 3-red 4-white Ok when on relay I key the mic the radio just has a lound hummm and when on electronic the radio goes right to TX mode and when I key the mic it's not. Some thing is back words here but I guess I can not get it. And scrapiron Thank you for the mod's for the radio yup I sure do want to pep her up a bit but my head is kinda sore from banging it on my desk about the mic. Just keep looking and I am going to do the same I am going to take her down to a friends place kinda has an idea what to do. If you guys respond to this and mine is slow I might be off for a bit but I will try to keep an (I) on this. Thank you both. 73s Len #111 So Minnesota (Tropical) And HAPPY NEW YEAR !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Len, your welcome for the adjustments. Unless you've owned that old Turner mike since it was new, its just a crapshoot on wiring it to a radio. I have found lots of them that had been rewired in the mike, so as to make them compatiable to other mikes or another radio. If you have a VOM its pretty easy to figure out what each wire is doing. I looked in the Turner book again, some of the other 4 pin Royce radios were wired like this: 1. White 2. Shield 3. Black 4. Red Its gotta work, don't chunk it, ha, Scrapiron |

Len, I have an old Royce base, and in no way, shape, or form could I wire any amplified mic to it. I just couldn't get anything to work with it. Steve Tech181 Tech181@copperelectronics.com |

What Royce is that 181, do you mean you couldn't get a power mike to work at all, that is key up, or modulate, or it just didn't perform like you wanted. scrapiron |

But befor I do I will try scrapiron's wire first.Again I really do Thank you for the help. I try to tell every one I know if they have trouble with a radio to come here first. This has a great bunch of old and young CB'rs that can and will help when possible. 73's & 88's from mine to you'rs Len # 111 So Minnesota |

Scrapiron, Royce model T-28 (POS). Wouldn't work at all, hummed, and sparked and carried on something fierce no matter what I tried. I used a stock mic. Steve Tech181 Tech181@copperelectronics.com |

Hey Steve Where could a person pick up a stock mic for a royce 642?? just in case? I will try just about any thing right now. the royce I picked up for the fact that was my first SSB base I ever owned. My half brother blew it up when I was in the army he put up my asro beam and did not check the SWR's. (FLASH BACK) And I just picked up my first cobra gtl 2000 they are real sweet radio. But my RCI 2970 and my 2950 DX are still my top radio's. 73's Steve and scrapiron and 307 I do appreciate the help Thank you. Len |

Steve, I've never seen that T model Royce, all the ones I know of had an "I" prefix, or just a three digit number. Len, you said your brother blew up the Royce, are you sure it's working ok now. If the radio is ok, and the mike is ok, it can be wired for that radio, i'd bet the farm on that. In thirty plus years of owning, repairing, modifing, almost every brand of CB or Ham radio made, i've never seen one I could not make a power mike work on. Sometimes its quite a job, maybe more work than its worth, and maybe I've been lucky, haven't found that bad one yet. These high dollar transistor ham radios that sound so ratty on AM, like the Kenwood and Icoms will sound great with a D-104. In some of the old tube type radios, like Brownings and others, you have to be careful, some on them have 120 volts on one pin, you sure don't want that on the audio wire, or your finger, but I've put echomasters, d-104s and other mikes on them. Some of the others have 12 volts on one pin, they power the mike from the radio, I've put the echo masters on these, and used the power from the radio to power the mike, they work better on the 12 volts than 9. If you were closer to Arkansas I would wire it for you, but there must be someone around where you live that can do it. keep trying, scrapiron |
