Maco Shooting Star is a nice antenna. 4 element, Horz and Vert., 17 ft boom. Good price compared to other antennas on the market. |

I love my maco shooting star I just put up a week ago. I shoot all kinds of skip on the horizontal side.

Maco M103C is a good ant, and doesn't take an expensive rotor to turn it. A heavy duty tv. ant rotor will turn it without a problem. I ran one horizontal with a Rat Shack HD TV Ant rotor for about a yr with no problems.

Don't really bother with buying a vertical/horizontal combo like the comet, shooting star, super lazer 400/500. Go with a horizontal only M104, M105, or an M106. You will not need the vertical. But, then again.. just my humble opinion.. WoodStock Augusta, GA Home of the Masters 27.225 AM |

I'm glad I got the vertical/horizontal combo. The vertical pulls in my locals very well and my wife's mobile on her way home from work. Then I switch to horizontal for shooting skip. Works very well for that.

well I run a maco m 105 on the flat side only and talk local and skip any time i want to. At 40 feet in the air. IT is one of the better antennas i have owned. |

Dx is better talked while on the Horz side. But, once in awhile DX signals are stronger while on Vert side. And Verticle is best for local talking to base and mobiles. A dual polarized beam is nice to have in my opinion. JIM

If you have a lot of locals, verticle is nice, otherwise, horizontal is the way to go, a lot easier to work on a beam with one polarization. Rich |

I won't disagree that vertical polarization isn't useful.. BUT.. if you have a good omni directional antenna say 40-80 feet in the air you really won't need the vertical side. I do understand the "ears" aspect for picking up weaker stations, but a really good ground plane at the right height will work well, just won't be able to pinpoint the signal since it not only broadcasts "omni".. it listens "omni" too. |

I ran a Moonraker 4 for quite awhile. It was nice, but even for local~ 10-40 miles, the verticle side was directional. I think you would be happier with a 4 or 5 element set horz and then put a Imax, Maco 5/8, I-10K, Spectrum 1600, A99 etc... on top. Unless your locals are in one direction from you. Even when the skip was doing better with verticle polarization, a single ground plane or a copy stick worked as good as the MR4's verticle side pointed at them working dx. JMHO |

Yeah Bburck you made a good point. And that does make a good combination. Guess it's all up to what you want there Doggie669. Even though a person runs any kind of beam setup, its nice to also have the ole Omni groundplane antenna also. JIM/PA/ CEF 375 |

Run your beam flat side and an Imax above it on the same mast and you will have a smoking setup |
