What kind of amp is it? Sounds like relays could be sticking or chattering. JIm/ PA/ CEF 375 |

I have this one amp that works fine in the house but relays hang up on it in the mobile. Other amps I have work on the same mobile set-up just fine and never hang up the relays.. It can be a hair pulling delema!! Solution for me was a different amp. Wish I could help more besides saying Ground everything, try moving the amp far away from the radio and try an even lower dead key like 1 watt.. |

Do you have a dummy load that can handle the amp? Try that on the output of the amp. If it still latches maybe it's the amp. I'm still betting on some sort of RF feedback. Better coax to the antenna? I have a 3' jumper or less from a 257 to a KL300P and never had a problem. Everything is star grounded amp stays in SSB mode, more reason to latch. I run a 2-2.5 watt DK AM and recuctantly hammer it on SSB to get peaks of 200-225W. Chad |

crackerjack, i did set my radio down to 1/2 watt DK. now the amp does not hang up as much, but i checked the wattage from the amp and at DK the amp is putting out a whopping 8 watts on am. hell i can get that with out the amp just by tuning the radio back up....i am really thinking i got a bad amp..just a thought, could they forgot to covert the amp before they sent it to me.. |

It the KL-203. it has ssb switch and its a mobile amp. think of sending it back or having a tech here look at it. for the price i paid its really not worth me sending it back cause shipping will end up costing me more the it is worth..or trash it. |

OK guys heres the deal..i called a buddy the old days. he came to see what the problem was with the amp. he got out of his car, stood there for 5 secs, reached in the trunk, and got out a 2 foot jumper and a coupler and told me to add it to the coax of the antenna.........problem solved..man i feel stupid. he then told me those dummies at Wilson should know to use the right lenght of coax..2 feet added on makes it about 20 feet of coax now and it works fine. |

I've never had problems with a Amp no matter what length the jumper or coax i've ran...Hummmmm Don't feel stupid, you just never know what will cure a problem in this business. LOL I run 6 ft of coax from antenna to radio in my car. And a 2 ft jumper from radio to my KL-200 amp. SWRS are 1:1 1-40. Swr rises just alittle when amp is on. Anyway, glad you found the problem.
