Bought this radio new from a "tech" via auction.
Was told "only out of the box for a peak/tune and Freq mod". Originally told DK's 10w swing to 65w AM and 100wSSB. Although I doubted it I took it anyway because the price was right.
My question: How much power should I see out of this radio? I opened it myself and adjusted the mod to just hit 100% on a whistle and able to get 30W PEP on a whistle (or Aaaaaaaaah-dio)on AM. I didn't turn it up all the way but rather peaked it without over doing it. Once I saw RMS start to swing backward I backed off to see a steady 8-10w RMS with PEP to AM 30W max with maybe a little more on SSB.
Sound right or should this radio be capable of more? I thought with a dual final I might see around 40w AM or so.
BTW..SWR is flat 1:2 max and am currently testing off a fully charged (13.6v) car battery.
I checked the "mods" page but didn't give any info other than VR12,VR13 & VR14..any other tips I could use? I Won't clip the mod limiter...I promise. :-)

Thanks in advance,

Ahhhhh...ok then..he musta had one of those magic "tech" meters then. :-) The kind that you hold up to the "tone" and see watts you'll never see at home with modulation or your BEST whistle!
Thanks for reassurance...I feel better now :-)
I remember having a PC68 tuned my a local tech after I installed a swing kit some time ago before I got brave. I "SAW" 27 watts on his Dosy under a tone yet I NEVER saw a touch over 10w at home on ANY of my peak reading meters. What good is quoteing a watt spec if you'll never really see it with normal modulation? Guess it sells radios huh? :-):-)
