Is anyone familiar with a Motorola CB Transceiver Tester, what we know as a SWR meter? If so, your thoughts on the quality of the meter for accuracy, etc. Thanks. Keith |

I've never seen any Motorola CB or CB accessories. As much as I hate them for making it illegal for me to listen to certain frequencies, I have to admit that they make good stuff, so it's probably pretty good. Even if they didn't make it themselves it's got their name on it so it's got to meet their standards. As far as accuracy goes, it probably doesn't compare with a Bird or Coaxial Dynamics meter, but it's probably at least as good as most CB units. |

Keith: I saw one many years ago in a ham shack back home in upstate New York and the owner was quite proud that it said Motorola on it. |

Thanks guys. Hollowpoint, back in the 70's Motorola made cb radios. Looked just like radios in policecars too. Go on e bay and type in Motorola cb radio and you can get an idea what they looked like. Keith |

I've heard of them and seen photos, but I've never seen them in person where I could form a general impression about their build quality. I would imagine they were pretty good - like other Motorola equipment. From what I know, all of their CBs were AM only which never really interested me. |

Looks like Joe and 808 have been in the same car or truck? I have one of those meters, may not be the same type you are speaking of, but I have one made by Motorola. Drop me a email and let's chat...

Therealporkchop, Sorry but no I was trying to DOWNSIZE the picture to take up less space. Pictures need to be downsized so a person does not have to scroll across the page to read the Forum Messages. Lon Tech808 CEF808 N9OSN

Hollowpoint445, Motorola made ssb radios also. The CB-550, CB-555, CM-555 and the CM-550 that Donald_duck has picture of it posted. When the Law Enforcement agencies used to all have CB Radios, that was when Motorola made them. Then they found out there was a market for them with the everyday consumer and started producing them for us. Semper Fi!!! HARVE Unit199 CEF210 KB0YVK |

The mic on this thing has it's own audio amp built inside that is powered by the radio, with a gain control. The thing will show 95% modulation with just a steady "Ahhhhhhhhh" on the AM side on my trusty old Hy-Gain meter. Stock!!! Relay switching for the transmitter was something that impressed me, along with the "heft" of this rig's innards. Heat sinks galore along with thermal shut down protection. No bling, just swing!!! For a radio "new in the box" off ebay, I thought it was a pretty good deal (steal) for $130 and change. Thing probably went for $300+ back in '77.DD |
