Most of the 4x4 clubs now require CB radios for their organized trail rides, so I want to invest in a decent AM set-up that has a lil punch. After reading a couple hundred posts here, I am getting educated and confused at the same time. I was thinking about going with the Uniden pc68 elite (would fit better in my rig then the pc78 and I like the weather junk) with a kl200 for the punch. Are there any issues running this set-up? Would I need to do any mods to the radio to run the amp and not blow it? I was thinking a lil wil antenna to top it off. Any suggestions are appreciated, thanks! |

The Uniden PC 68 should work well with the KL 200. I have a KL 200, fine little amp. JIM/ PA/ CEF 375 |

PC-68 IS GREAT LITTLE STRAIGHT CB . KL-203 IS A LITTLE BETTER THAN 200P . YOU WILL NEED TO GET YOUR DEAD KEY DOWN TO 1 OR 2 WATTS |

sounds good except the antenna. i would get a 102 inch whip with 6 inch spring simply cause price if you ruin it doing what ya love well your only out bout 18.00 dollars . performance is great, your antenna makes your radio talk not the other way around.general rule. just my 2 cents |

Just to add to Dale's post, the 102" whip is durable also. I ran one on my 4x4 and it worked very well. |

thanks for all the advice! I agree that the antenna is an issue. The club I run with doesn't allow a 102" whip, I guess they think you're going to poke an eye out with it or something. My other idea was a 5' firestick mounted to the drivers side hood lip, or a willson 1000. Anyone running trail rigs with the antenna mounted to the hood?? Thanks again for the advice! |

Your 4x4 club doesn't allow 102" whips??? dude find another club...cause no 4x4 club I've ever known would tell it's members not to get a 102" whip. That's insane. The 102" whip is more durable than anything I've ever seen and the performance is excellent. That's just bizarre..I'd tell them that they don't know the first thing about CB antennas or 4x4ing for that matter. Throw the 102" on there...it's the original 4x4 antenna. |

It's the ONLY 4x4 antenna, and it should have a neat little crook in the end of it, where it has smacked limbs ect. LOL |

A swinging and swaying S.S. whip is like a sword in the hands of a pirate. That's why there not allowed...LOL... I wouldn't bother getting a real good antenna as it will just get beat around. JIM/ PA/ CEF 375 |

the wilson you said shushimoe is a good antenna also but if ya ruin that one thats $80.00 down the drain. 102 whip 17.99 at most radio shacks. as far as not allowing the thats wrong. is your 4x4 a truck or suv. if ya got a truck mount in your bed up front . header board i think its called. it will keep connections away from mud preety good and it should be out of harms way .just my 2 cents |

I forgot to mention, my rigs a '96 Grand cherokee. I think I could get away with a 102 on the rear drivers side and just tie it down on trail runs. If I go with a center roof mount, I can't see doing a 102... SUV + Lift + big tires = hitting everthing down the road. Sounds like the thru the roof mounting would be ideal with a shorter ant. How bad is the directional issue with something mounted on the rear drivers side quarter panel. I used to run an old rat shack with a 102 on a '78 dodge aspen.. woohoo! dragged that thing on every drive-thru I could find. What's everyone running on their SUVs? |

I totally agree a 102" whip is the way to go....but....I have a Lil Wil that I used for years, and that lil sucker really surprised me. I used to park on hills and hear some serious skip. After awhile I upgraded to a WIlson 1000, and it definitely made a difference, but I'll never forget how much fun I had with that Lil Wil as a starter antenna. Make sure ya get a power mic too. Have fun! |

Okay BRUCE , I found it , I was looking under regular mobile antennas . How would you compare it with the SS 102 , both mounted on rear bumper ? |

I have run both and its almost as good as a 102 but nothing is AS GOOD as a 102in. keep the little hex tool i unscrew the anttena pull the wip out and store the antenna in my trunk at night then rescrew back on trunk just insert the wip to be back ready to go.

Sushimoe, I have a '93 grand cherokee with a 102" ss whip mounted on a custom aluminum bracket on the driver's side of the rear bumper. Works well there, but you have to be careful opening and closing the hatch. I didn't use a spring because there is some flex(intentional) in the bracket, but make up for it with a hustler quick disconnect. When I need to take it down, its just a quick twist and stow in car or sometimes just on top (when not in motion). One thing you need to also look out for is low bridges on parkways. On Long Island there are some bridges I smack when in either the left or right lanes because the bridge arches downward there. However, I have never noticed any damage to the antenna at all.
