I really hate to sound ignorant, but in this arena I confess - I *AM* IGNORANT! What's the benefits of having a 2 pill modulator over a 2 pill amp? Or are there any? Can someone educate me a little here? |

It's the same thing, different label. Most "modulators" are one transistor (or tube) that help to increase your overall signal/modulation. Most modulators seem to be class C which works well on AM, and can always be used as a driver for a larger amp. Modulator or amp, there is no real difference between the two. And no such thing as being ignorant here, it's why we are all here. To learn and teach and learn again. Alsworld |

'And no such thing as being ignorant here, it's why we are all here. To learn and teach and learn again'-if we WERE ignorant, we'd be on TV at 2AM selling our knowledge as infomercials!! |

The only way i know of to "MODULATE" a signal is with a push-push amp. Now back in the 50's Central electronics used this method to make a "CONVETER " to generate a crude double side band ...... push-push 1625's or 807's would give you close to 100 watt |

We are all students here. Well at least I am. Seem to learn something everyday. I have heard that ignorance is bliss. Just think if everybody was ignorant we would'nt have a worry in the world and our radios would never have a problem. We would'nt even need this forum to learn from each other because we would all be know it alls.........Now the topic of insane on the other hand.............Some say I am, but I dont believe them!!!! Ha ha ha ha hahahah ah ahaha a, oh man |

A MODULATOR ? Now think about this If LINEAR input will equal output waveform ...... now how do you make a MODULATOR? Unless your running some sort of ALC and allowing it to control gain by sampling the input audio and increasing gain ...... OR as in a PUSH-PUSH amp cancling carrer and allowing sidbands to pass at full gain.... beats me how anything like a MODULATER could even exsist. O-WELL |

Had a texas star modulator, brand new, very carefully removed cover to look inside,HOLYCRAP,just a one pill(2sc2290)amp without an ssb delay cap,but it had BIG input and output matching-transformers,boy on ssb the relay went ra-a-tat-tat,carefully put the cover back on and got my money back, phew. The guy who sold it to me has since took up residense in fed. prison ala fcc and the marshal service, double phew.Bigbob |

What was wrong with it? It was missing a pill? Texas Star is one of the best. |

Hotwire, nothing, nothing at all it was not missing a pill,it is simply an AM driver for the sweet 16 or the 12,you would have to modify it for ssb.I just wanted to purchase a 1-pill ssb amp and this was not it,on the outside of it it said it was a modulator,I believe 100v,it would make a perfect 80 watt rms amp.Bigbob |
