First post would like to say hi to all. I just started getting into CB and really like it but have little to no help as far as anyone that I know. I currently have a 19DXIII radio in my car and just purchased a KL-60 amp which ive installed. Ive got good power cable and ground, amp powers up fine. When I key up the radio however, the amp seems to kick in but wont kick off, when I let off the PTT I get a ton of noise in the radio and cant hear anyone anymore until I shut the amp off. I havent checked SWR yet as ive not gotten the meter (ill be gettin one here soon dont worry!) and my antenna will be upgraded to a Wilson 500 here in the next few weeks. What are the types of things that can cause the amp to do this? It seems when I key the amp up as well that the am/fm radio will get clear and when I let off it kills reception (its the opposite when I have the radio hooked up without the amp, when I key up itll kill the fm radio which Ive heard is normal, I also hear myself in the speakers of the car). Any help would be really great, thanks.

Change the length of your jumper between your radio and amp |

How long should it be, I think I read somewhere under 3ft? I'm gonna move the amp under my seat I think and run a 1ft jumper to the radio (or 3ft if thats better). Is the jumper whats causing the amp to stay on like that? |

I got it working, though my SWR/Power meter is telling me its only putting out about 10 watts (from what I've read its supposed to be 25). It actually was around 20 and has suddenly dropped, probably due to the use when it was all outta wack on the wrong antenna. Oh well ive learned quite a bit since then and will be gettin a better setup soon |

Why not mount the amp to the top of the radio? then the coax would only be like 4 inchs long |

With a 1.5 watt dead key and swing to 18 watts (radio only) It drives my KL-60 up to about 40 watts out. What are your swr's? and what kind of meter are you using for watts/swr? Also very important that you keep your dead key at about 1 or 1.5 watts because these little KL-60's don't like to be driven hard. |

It won't live long on 18 watts swing either, bring that swing down to 12 and your amp will live longer and you will sound better unless you have an ikky voice in the first place then I don't know.Bigbob |
