HI, I purchased a Galaxy FC-347 Frequency Counter and I have a President Washington Base (PC-385 PCB) and I need help hooking it up to the Board.. Can anyone E-Mail me the Instalation instructions? My E-mail is LordAnubis777@msn.com Any help would be Much appreceited .. Thank You.. 73's |

Bear in mind that it will read correctly ONLY on AM with this radio, and only with the internal jumper on the FC-347 set for a 7.8 MHz radio.
When the internal jumper is set for 7.8 MHz, it expects a "148"-type radio that has an internal carrier offset of 1.5 kHz either side of 7.8 MHz for USB and LSB.
As a result, it will read correctly on a Cobra 148GTL, a President Madison or a Grant XL/LT. All those models have a carrier offset of plus/minus 1.5 kHz for SSB.
Your Washington's carrier-frequency shift is instead plus/minus 2.5 kHz for sideband modes.
If all you care about is AM, this won't be a problem. SSB will call for subtracting 1 kHz from the reading on USB and adding one on LSB.
Never have seen a hookup posted anywhere for that radio.

Whup, been gone most of a week.
None of the external counters that I know of will tap into the Washington and read correctly on sideband. The same FC-390/FC-347 will work fine on a Grant XL/LT, or a Cobra 148. But only because they have the correct internal frequency offset. The Washington just fails to match that spec on the display.

Which Washington is this? there were three models, First uPD858 PLL this and the second model are President, second is the MB8719 PLL, third is the same radio, but was sold as a Uniden Washington.

I wouldn't worry about the different SSB offsets. Frequency counters of this class aren't terribly accurate anyway. They're more of a channel display than anything else. Besides, on SSB what matters is the pitch. You'll know if the frequency is correct without having a display confirm it. |
