Installed my tower today with a CDR Ham rotor. When I bench tested it two weeks ago it worked fine. The rotor gets mounted about 3' from the top of the tower.Cable lengh from base to rotor is about 180'. The rotor will not turn an inch. It just makes a buzzing. It's like a car that won't turn over. When I took it off to bench test it again with 3' of cable it worked good like it should. Is the greater distance preventing the rotor from preforming or could it be the control box? |

Are you using a Thrust Bearing? If not, you may have to much weight on it. Or you got a bad or loose wire in your long run of rotor wire. I have seen wires get pinched and cause that also. Wish you the best of luck! JIM/ PA/ CEF 375 |

Sounds like low voltage at the other end of the cable. |

I have alot of Rotor wire on mine and it turns fine. Buzzing only when you hook up to your long run of wire. If its working with the 3' piece your control box probably is fine. Has something to do with the long run of wire. Hummmm

could also be the capacitor in the controller is drying up.combined with the longer run of wire just not providing the needed amount of "ummph" to get it turning. tech291 CEF#291 kc8zpj |

davec sounds like a short to ground causing enought voltage drain to not let the rotor to turn, I myself just put up a yaesu G800SA today

i had the same trouble. There are spacers that go between the bottem of the rotor and the mounting plate on the tower. the wires tend to short out on the plate. put sone spacers or make some. |

Af579, I did use brass spacers at first and was going to try a nylon bushing next, but I took out the rotor and held it it my hands every which way and had someone work the control and it still would not work. |

Have you placed a vo;t meter on the distant end of the long cable? |

Replace the long wire, you have an open in it somewhere and the volt meter test can be confusing unless you know exactly what you are looking for. A dc test light or an ohm meter connected to the wire before it was run would have found this, never assume because it is new that it is ok,even used previously working wire should be checked.Bigbob |
