I have a ss3900 and a palomar 400 (4 X 1446). With the amp high, it will deadkey 2.5 and when it modulates, the swr meter swings down to 1.2??? What does this mean?? Lon you have any ideas?? Thanks, Ronnie.

The amp is probably fine, but your ss3900 may be experiencing downward modulation(negative carrier shift) because the antenna coupling coil is mistuned,it's usually the coil that is tuned when peaking the set, have it checked by a compitant tech, not the local hack and slash. The other thing that comes to mind is the amp power supply may be too small or the power leads are too thin, with an amp that size I use a 70 amp power supply with 8 gauge for short(5' or less)runs or single or double 0 gauge for longer runs, with a dual final(1969 or 2312)radio properly tuned and that supply setup my dead key is .1 lower than full modulation AND MAN DOES THIS SUCKER TALK.Hope this helps, but you wanted to talk to Lon,so just ignore this info,I'm not a tech, but Lon is and he really knows his stuff.Bigbob
