Does anybody use ferrite clips with there gear? I think I saw a pic of somebody using one on a mic cord here. Are they useful in an way for radios? Do you put them on the coax, power wires, mic cords? Wondering because I have a few laying around and just realized what they are. They were on some PC gear my family had a while back. Regardless, any input on the uses of these would be great. thanks |

Yes. They are quite useful to keep RF from traveling on cables including microphone, coax, and power. |

I use them a lot, and they sure help, before I got them sometimes when I ran heat, the comp would go off, stopped that dead in its tracks! Rich |

Hot, When I ran my 99 and palomar toguether I would get rf feedback in to the mic cord. I bought one and snapped it on the cord... BAM! no more feed back! Well actually if I turned it ALLL the way up it still squealed but it got way better. That's still on my cord too BC |

Will putting ferrite clips around the coax at the base of an antenna stop engine noise from entering through the antenna? Thanks, Joe |

Joe, engine noise is normally from the power wires, not the antenna Hot, Thanks BC |

BC, Thanks for the reply. To start off with, thats what I originally thought. With engine off, I can turn on the radio and all is quiet. When the engine is running, I get a popping sound and a high pitch whine that increases with engine rpm (sounds like ignition noise). When I disconnect the coax from the radio, all is quiet. I hook the coax back to the radio and disconnect it from the antenna, all is quiet. I hook the coax back to the antenna and remove the antenna from the mount, and again, all is quiet. When I screw the antenna back onto the mount, I get alot of noise. So that leads me to believe that the coax is good and the noise is comming in through the antenna. I coiled up 6 turns of coax at the antenna end, but that didn't help, that's why I was asking about the ferrite clips. Thanks, Joe |

Wow! Well I would suspect either a ground problem or a BAD ignition problem somewhere. But that a side, they arent expensive, it couldn't hurt to try it. BC |

Hey GI Joe I get that noise too. A good noise blanker and ANL is what you need. Try a plastic covered antenna, it may help. Sometimes we just have to accept things. Its the way radio is, just noisy.I tried the clips but no luck. I think they work better on yhe mic cord for feedback but not sure. Just make sure your radios NB and ANL is working properly. |

Always mount your antenna as far from the engine compartment as possible. Also, make sure that you are using good quality RESISTOR plugs and wires. Make sure noise blanker is on. Make sure you have a GOOD ground from the anenna mount to the frame, or body. |
