Hey Grumpy is it mobile or base you plan to use it as? Thats a fine radio sir a fine radio indeed, top shelf!
Heck you could use any Astatic or Turner.....Maybe even a Silver Eagle for base. Some may even suggest using the stock mic. |

My RCI 2995dx sounds good with the
Silver Salute desk mic and the DM-452
echo hand-mic./ Turner + 3 was to bassy.
D-104 mic was to tinny./ Wish you the
best of luck with whatever you decide to
put on it.

What base mics have you used before and liked? It's not about what mic sounds good on what radio, it's about what mic sounds good with your voice. As long as the mic isn't a high impedance mic it'll work fine with your radio. |

You make it sound so simple Racer X.
But, in the real world, not so.
A mic will make you sound somewhat
different on every radio you put it
on. I love Turner mics, but, they will
NOT work on my current radio.

i always thought the stock mics sounded fine... The 2990 i used was real sensative... But if i was to change the mic i would go with a D104 |

Road_warrior - It is that simple. Think about this - you have a radio on which you like how your voice sounds with a D104. Your friend comes over to visit and talks on the radio to your friends. But your friend is a woman and has a much higher pitched voice than you do. She sounds like a banshee on your D104 while you sound just fine. Where's the problem? The microphone's interaction with the radio? Or is it her voice's interaction with the microphone? You could swap out D104 after D104 and she still wouldn't sound good on that radio, while you sound fine. It's the interaction of her voice with the microphone.
While D104s and Turners definitely sound different, they shouldn't be so different that you can't use one or the other on any radio. My guess is that your limiter is clipped or badly adjusted, and because of that the Turner (with it's more bassy voice responce) sounds poor when it's overdriving the radio, but the D104 (with it's higher cut responce) sounds better because only the higher frequencies are being lost. I think if you back down the output of the Turner it'll sound better. |

I have had some people tell me that the turner mics are a good mic for a base like the turner ssk ? |
