I AM BIULDINGMY FIRST BEAM. ANM-104. THE FIRST DIRECTOR ELEMENT IS ONLY 4-5 INCHES FROM THE MAST PIPE IS THIS CORRECT?ALSO WITH THE ANT. ON THE FLAT SIDE 8 FEET OF THE GROUND MY SWR IS 1.5 ON 40AND 1.5 ON 1. SWR ON MY IMAX IS 1.1 TO 1.2 THE INSRUCTIONS SAY THE SWR WILL DROP ON THE M-104 WHEN YOU TURN IT VERTICAL AND PUT IT IN THE AIR IS THIS TRUE ,HOW MUCH WILL IT DROP,DO I NEED TO TRY TO GET IT LOWER BEFORE PUTTING IT ON THE TOWER? MY TOWER IS 60 FEET WITH 10 FEET OF MAST PIPE COMMING OUT OF THE TOWER. ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!! THANKS |

Try placing the beam vertically toward the sky(director at the top) and see if your readings change at all. Don't know if it will match what you get when it's up in the air, but I've seen a couple of hams do it that way before putting their beams up on the tower. Proximity to ground has a definite effect on impedance. You may have to make some final adjustments at 60 feet. Be safe... |

Milky I have my tower on a hinge plate. With the tower raised off the ground a few feet, I put the vertical beam on the mast with the side of the beam toward the ground, maybe clearing the ground about 6 feet, just so I can reach the gamma match. I set the swr as low as possible like this, and it always stays the same or goes a little lower when I raise the tower up. This works for me anyway. scrapiron |

Sounds a little close to me. I think the instructions say set the boom to mast plate in the center of the boom. After you set the elements as instructed maybe the driver will be a bit farther from the mast than the first director, but I believe 4"-5" is a bit close. Main thing is that when you hold the beam at this plate that the antenna appears to be in balance and not heavy on one end or the other. From my quick check it looks like the driver will sit about 34" from the mast and the first director will sit about 11" from the mast on the other side. This is an optimized design setting for this antenna and the spacing will not appear balanced along the boom.

Milky if you plan on running the M104 and the I-max on the same tower you mite want to rethink things !!! but i have run a M104C for a few years now and i set mine up the same way but i had a 10 foot test tower and i could stand on top of the truck and work on the beam from there , but turning it up to the vert would cause it to hit the tower ! so i kept mine flat and run my Gatorod off the side of my tower for local talking ! Hope this helps !!!! Allagator ! CEF115 |

I agree with Gator: If beam is mounted on tower verticle, another antenna should be mounted separate. If beam is mounted Horz Flat side then another antenna can be mounted above it on tower. YEP, YEP JIM/ PA/ CEF 375 |

Are you talkin from experience or is this theory? Just curiuos, I haven't tried it. I have heard of verticles above MoonRakers and Quads that worked well, but not above a 3 or 4 element verticle beam. |

I have mounted a Imax above a flat side beam./ Never tried mounting it above a verticle positioned beam./ Has to throw something out of whack./ So, this is theory. LOL... JIM/ PA/ CEF 375 |
