I recently got a KL40 to use on a Cobra 29 . When the amp is on the voice sounds lower and muffled then when it is off.
I made no adjustments to the radio. After reading through some of the other posts here I was wondering if there was somthing I sould have done besides just plugging it in .

Nightprowlerups,

WELCOME TO THE COPPER FORUM!

If you did not get it from Copper you may need to do the 11 meter conversion to it listed below.
You will also need to adjust your Dead Key Power to around 2-1/2 to 3 watts of drive.

If the radio was putting out more than 4 watts Dead Key when you first keyed up the KL-40 could have blown instantly.

KL 40 Conversion,

#1 ~ Remove Cover
#2 ~ Locate the SO-239 receptacle that the wire is NOT soldered to.
#3 ~ Solder the wire to the SO-239 Connector.
#4 ~ Replace Cover.

Hope this helps,

Lon

Nightprowlerups:

The KL-40 that that I got from Copper's worked without a flaw, clean too,,,,, but I had it on a radio set at 2W max output.

The one that I got before that, from another dealer did not work correctly on either 10 or 11 meters, and I susspect that the conversion was not properly completed.

I did have to solder the the connector before I used it but I was unaware of turing down the wattage so I guess I done blowed it up .

I'm not sure how to test it but I do know there is no continuity between the ANT and RTX wires in either the on or off position , even when keyed .
