Had this amp given to me, the owner said that it had been used twice and then he moved into mobile home estates that didn't allow cb operations. Do you know anything about it. I have done search on net and search on this site with the only information that I have been able to come up with is that it is possible that it is a high drive amp putting out 150 watts. The gentleman said that he never had it modified for 11 meter and thats why he didn't use it very often. I intend to use it on 10 meter. Was interested to know anything about this amp. It is a baby blue color and a mobile unit. Has two toggle switches on a small box directly in front of the unit. AM & SSB and REC. Everything looks very commercial in the effects of finish and looks. I would imagine that it is not a c class amp but ab. Drives about 106 watts with 1.5 watts in. So I am guessing that it will preform near 150 when used to full potential. 73 |

Penatrator made a variety of amplifiers back in the '70s. I once had a 2 meter version with a remote head that put out about 80 watts on SSB and was very well made. Yours probably has two MRF455s and the cover is probably rivited to the heatsink. Of course, I could be mistaken ;-) It's a really nice little amplifier. I'd just be careful not to overdrive it. It could possibly have some of the super-rare TRW transistors in it, and if they are blown are next to impossible to find. Great amp, though! Does it have the remote head and cable? If so, it is a great amp to hide under the front seat of your vehicle! (Wish I could find one!) |

Dear Kilowatt, Yes it has the remote head that can be removed and an extension can be put in place. The control panel is only about 3 inches by 1 inch thick. It is a very nice looking unit. I am thinking that it will do nice as a driver for my sb 200 or for the 10 meter in the mobile. 73 Any other information on this unit would be greatly appreciated. |

Good Deal, Sitm, I wouldn't put more than about 2 watts carrier or 12 watts sideband into the unit. According to my paperwork, it is a 3-30Mc broadband amplifier with either two MRF 455s or two TRW 2581s. It should work anywhere from the low end of 75 meters up to the high end of 10 meters - and everything in between. It's a good class AB amplifier that should have good linearity on SSB. It would drive the mess out of a SB 200. However, I wouldn't put over about60 watts SSB into one of them as those 572Bs are very expensive... That being said, those tubes will take a lot of abuse. That amplifier would definitely do a good job for you on 10 meters in the mobile! Congratulations on running across such a nice amplifier! |
