I know Bluegrass had a look at them at the trucker show he went to. He made an earlier post sbout them and I was wondering about them too. I definitly will be buying one if the qaulity standards are high and none of that sound tracker mumbo jumbo.

Hope there not made in China like the newer Cobras, 100 watts sounds OK though, the 200 is a nice looking radio. Look at the meter, no lite bar here, love those analog meters. Also look at the 6 digit counter. If and when would Copper be carrying this new fine looking radio. I'll bet no one asked if it's China made or not. Three words "MADE IN CHINA" stops me right then and there. Just my own opinion of where the good radios are/were being made.

With 100W, a six digit counter, an SWR meter and enough coverage with 4 bands I think this possibly has more going for it than a 257 even with the US$215 price tag. Chances are it is being made in China.....
Bet it don't have that smooooth 257 audio thou.
Spec mentions the following which doesn't really add up:
10 KHz control
30W RF power
40W dual finals
Full-featured 32.8-ft AM/FM/SSB radio
100W SSB
4 bands
Big radio if it has a 32.8-ft anything. It wom't fit in my shack let alone the truck.

Do you think we have been April Fooled....??

That 32 foot could be a typo, because Dennis 291 has posted a picture of the radio on this thread.

That's a cool looking radio. Any chance you could tell us where the full sized photo is on the net, or email me a full sized pic?

The stats all make sense to me. The 32.8' refers to the wavelength - which is 10 meters exactly. I didn't bother to post that information because it was pretty apparent to me that the page had converted the metric measurement to english units and everyone should have assumed it was a "10 meter" radio because it was marketed as an amateur radio.

The 30 watt RF power probably refers to the AM carrier power because it has 100 watts of SSB power - which is PEP. Until I know what finals a radio actually uses I don't really buy the marketing hype anyway.

I got some new information in the mail Saturday about these radios. A customer service representative sent me a color printed sheet on each radio that appears to be from a laser printer on plain paper rather than the normal glossy paper. The pictures are of pretty good resolution and easily show the labeling of each knob and button. I'll try to get a scan up on the web somewhere soon so you all can see them.

From these sheets it appears that each radio has a switch for low and high power. On the Cobra 200 GTL DX it's the third push buttom to the left of the microphone jack, and on the Cobra 150 GTL DX it's the slide switch furthest to the left. Also, it appears that the Cobra 200 GTL DX doesn't have talkback as was shown on the website where I got the previous listed specifications. It's clarifier is a coarse/fine on a dual concentric pot. The rest of the specifications seem to be as listed above.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a place to post the pics once I get them scanned?

Does it say 30 watts AM and 100 Watts SSB?

These are going to cost a bundle.

A 148 ain't cheap...add all the other features and extra finals...gonna be over $300 for sure.

At that price then you wonder how it will stand up to the Magnums/Connex/Galaxy

Sorry but they are not on the market as yet.

With it only having 4 bands the price it might be a major factor in comparing them to the 6 and 8 band radios such as the VR9000 & Magnum 257 that offer far more coverage.

I can't wait to actually see and test one of them to see how they compare.

$215.99 has got to be for the low power/no counter model. & of course since it is NOT yet available ANYWHERE at ANY price, as soon as it does, i'll bet that price skyrockets to $400+.

Comment: On your website your advertising the Cobra 200 GTL DX.

I was under the impression this radio has not yet been released by
Cobra.

If I place my order now when can I expect my radio to arrive?

Thank you.

Cobra's advertising states it has a frequency counter....Why then when the course clarify is moved the frequency goes out of whack. The display no longers reads the true frequency. In fact it is miles off. It doesn't have a counter, it has a display. Easy test to check out whether or not you want a Cobra 200GTL DX for SSB...go into a radio shop and try one on air...get a report..then try any other radio..yup any radio ...and ask them which radio sounds better.

NOTICE!

OK, enough is enough.

The Question that was asked is:
Does anyone have information about these new radios?

If you have information then Please post it.

If you want to talk about other radios then Please START a new topic.

If you had a post above and it has been edited, or it is no longer there then I have EDITED it or DELETED it, since it had nothing to do with this Topic / Question.

If the freq counter moves with the clarifier it is a counter and not a display. A display does NOT move with the clarifier. These radios need the right person to set them up. They can not be hacked up by your everyday truckstop shop

Have a look at the circuit diagram guys...It is just a display and the clarify counts it down off the chip...but not very accurately. The S-9 has a counter.

Are all the specs available for the newest version of the 200GTL?

I read somewhere that they changed the finals and made various other refinements.
