Has anyone tried this.......
Reversed the GPK on the Imax or A99 i.e
installing the GPK upside down? |

I would just be guessing here but maybe Antron & Anttron and Solorcon did and that is why they made the GP Kit to point down towards the horizon?
This would be a good question for someone with far more antenna knowledge than I have to answer.

a friend of mine did that and didn't realize it was wrong til I told him so.anyways,his signal
came up 3 s units after making it right.he's about 18 miles away from me.couldn't help but laugh at(with) him!!! so in other words,don't waste your time trying it,unless of course you've nothing better to do!LOL!!!

Slim,
I saw this on an A99 while in Wyoming visiting my sister and thought it looked kinda funny and was wanting to know what it would do to the signal pattern.
I had no intention of trying it, personally, I think the GPK is a total waste of time and money.
Was just curious.......

I put the GPK on my Imax, worked, but not like I expected it would. Two days ago, I replaced the 6ft radials with four, 23 ft of #14 copper wire. I sloped them about 65 degrees downward, tremendous difference!! RX is up by an 1 s, RFI completely gone, and DX comes in where my homebrew Super Penetrator copy (with Jay's trombone matching system) wouldn't pick it up. According to EZNEC, it's running at 6.0 dbi, instead of the 3.5 of the plain stick. |

In case anyone is wondering why I changed out the radials on the Imax, follow this link and read the analysis of each antenna and then the dual 5/8. Antenna Modeling

Tech808, I think you may be incorrect about my posts to the 5/8 radials thread. I tried twice to directly reply to Racer_x's question in the thread about how I installed the wires and how I spaced them out in order to get the proper downward angle, using the TANGENT function of my scientific calculator. I posted once late Monday and it didn't show. I posted again on Tuesday and it still didn't show, so I gave up.
Using wires is nothing new, but the length, 5/8 wl long, is the key factor. Using radials 5/8 wl radials steeply sloped downward instead of 1/4 wl (or less with the GPK) radials reduces the high angle lobes and compresses them into the main lobe at 6-8 degrees above horizon. I have modeled it with EZNEC-ARRL, I have conferred with the website owner where I had found the idea, as well as antenna guru LB Cebik. It has as nearly as much gain as an Exdented Double Zepp or a twin 5/8 element collinear radiator. It doesn't work well with short range skip that comes in at high angles above the horizon, at horizontal dipole works best for that. But it works extremely well with intercontinental DX signals comming in just above the horizon as well as local ground wave signals. If you go to this website: Antenna Modeling and follow through, looking at each of the modeled antenna types, you will see what I mean. |
