Hey, this qeustion is for 808 or somebody whos had experince with this amp. Whats the amp draw on a Texas Star Sweet Sixteen? Whats it fused at? How much will this rig swing, whats the dead key? I have a couple older modulators without the power dial. I can use one of them, or would it be better with a newer modulator for the driver. Also, would a Rci2950 or a Magnum S-9 be too much power to use as a radio? I have a 148gtl I can run also. I want the most amount of foward swing. And last, what are the physical dimensions fo the Sweet Sixten? What about with fan kit. Im looking to build up a decent sized mobile radio, as the base staton is top shelf after years of tweaking it. I have indepth mobile instalation experience and want to shoot skip. Thanks for all the help 808. |

THEY DRAW 92 AMPS... I WOULD SUGGEST RUNNING A TS SUPER VEE MODULATOR.. THEY SEEM TO WORK GOOD TOGETHER.. THE RADIO, REALLY DOES NOT MATTER AS LONG AS YOU KEEP IT LOW... IF RUNNING RIGHT INTO THE 1600 I WOULD CRANK IT BUT IF YOU ARE GONOG TO RUNING THRU A MODULATOR I WOULD RUN THE RADIO AROUND... 3 WATTS OR SO.. ENOUGH TO GET ABOUT 125-160 WATTS OUT OF THE MODULATOR... THE SWEET 16 WILL DEAD KEY ANY WHERE AROUND 400-600 AN SWING ALMOST TO 2000 OR SO.. IT ALL DEPENDS ON HOW HARD YOU ARE DRIVING EVERYTHING.... HOPE THIS HELPS. |

1200 watts swing out of a texas star dx1600 is about max. the customs on 14v barely swing 1600. 400+ dead key is about right. a 2-2290 driver, dead key 40 watts & swing 150 works fine. i usually use a dx250 or AR3500/100 watt to drive my dx1600. size is 3-1/4 H x 6-3/4 W x 18" long. amp draw of the complete setup, radio, driver & amp is anywhere from 100-130 amps. |

Excellent. Thanks for the 411 guys. Im thinking a high power alternator and a optima battery. And 20 fared cap at the amp. What about key down on the 1600s? Will they hold up to the long key or should you go easy on it. Im interested in the bigger amp because I figure I would get high output even if I was running it with the driver down alittle. I want a strong keydown without stressing the amp. For the investment of $600 would it be in my interest to look at other rigs also, like Skywalker or Xforce?? Thanks for the time. |

I WOULD LOOK AT THE XFORCE'S.. THEY ARE AWSOME BOX'S.. AN YOU CAN GET ALOT MORE OUT OF THEM THEN ANY TS LINEAR.. |

i agree with bulldog on that 1. xforce/magnaforce(depending on how much SSB usage) or davemade. i ran custom alternators that tested at 105-110 amps @ under 2000 engine rpm's, along with 3(sometimes 4) BIG cca batteries, it's keeping the voltage as close to 14v for as long as possible that you're trying to accomplish. years of doing it that way & only had 1 alternator failure. purchased 1 aftermarket high amp alternator & smoked it, so went the cheap route & it worked fine. didn't get any more output with the 180 amp alt, & the small alt with multiple batteries held the voltage long enough. the dx1600 is probably the max you can run on the setup i used, 16 pill + 5 pill driver definitely needs more alternator to run it efficiently-i tried it & got about 65% from 16 pill. or you can go the 'motor-maul' route. i've seen 'em used, but never tried it myself. not sure about long term effects on stock alternator, & they sure do get hot! |

running multiple baterries didnt toast your stock alt? I wouldnt think you wouldnt be able to get away with that. Adding a second battery for me would def be cheaper than high amp alt though. Looks like any way you slice it the power in my car needs to be BEEFED up. I have not heard of the "motor maul"? do you thinka Xforce xt400 would draw about the same in amps on the vehicle? 500 dead key, 1000pep are the specs for the 400s. Thanks Pats00, Bulldog. |

the xt400 is a 2 pill driving 4, driving them pretty hard as that goes, & since that amp gets pretty much the same output as the dx1600 with driver, YES, amp draw would be fairly close, in the 110+ range. the motor maul is sort of a 'step up transformer' thingie. like i've said, i never tried 1, & at $600 for 'em (xforce makes 'em) an aftermarket alt could actually cost less, just more difficult installation. i had the local auto electric shop customize my stock alternators in my '80's era chevy blazers. for $75 or less, he converted it over to 1 wire hookup, changed diodes to an HD multidiode setup to specifically handle the added workload of keeping multiple batteries charged. over the years, only 1 of those alts ever burned up. |
