Can someone give me the hookup locations to wire this unit to a Grant XL? Thanks, Jerry |

I've looked on there, and there were no hook up info for the Uniden Grants. Unless is somewhere I'm not looking. I seen the FC347 hookup diagrams for the different radios but the Grants aren't there. It's a different board layout than the 148GTL. Thanks, I'm still learning. |

the grant is basicly the same board as the 148.you need a freq counter and volt meter to locate the wire hookups that are in the grant board by looking at the 148 you can compare and find the hook ups that way.I have the lt and xl that I have wired using the 148 layout as a reference to do this. Hey, can I get a pic on how you have yours wired? The ones I'm basically having some trouble with are the yellow and orange. Are those hooked to an 8v source when the mode is switched to lsb or usb accordingly?

That's what I thought. I'm hooking it up right, it's just not getting the proper readout. I hooked it to a 122XL that only has the clarifier unlocked, same wire locations lsb 8v, usb 8v, gnd, etc... and it works fine. On the XL and LT I get a 45.850 I believe that't the right reading on channel one, and 10kc's up the channels accordingly. Both the XL and LT have channel mod done by wires going to the pl, so that may be a problem. I'll look into it more. Thanks a bunch. |

I own a Grant XL and it has the same PC board as the older Cobra 148 GTL and has an FC-347 hard wired to the circuit board, and the hook up instructions that came with the counter for the 148 GTL were used to wire the counter to the Grant XL and the counter reads dead on frequency. Should read 27.965.0 on channel one. |

Yankee - Do you find it useful for anything more than a frequency display? As a SSBer I find 100Hz resolution rather coarse when differences of as little as 10Hz can make a noticeable difference in pitch. |

The jumper inside the display is still configured for a Galaxy radio. The PC-122 has the same internal carrier (IF) frequency as the Galaxy radios, 10.695 MHz . THAT'S why it reads okay on the PC-122. Change the jumper inside the display, and it will read wrong on the PC-122. And right on the Grant XL. 73

Guys, you have my curiosity up. Why do you need a freq. counter for a plain 40 channel CB with SSB. If you are on ham bands, I understand. But for just forty channels, I do not. And yes I have an old Cobra 148F GTL that has freq. counter. Still new in box, hoping some day I can get rid of it. Prefer my Uniden Grant XL's. Not complaining about freq. counter. I agree that it looks good, maybe to impress the girls? If that is the case, go for it. Keith |

keith, primarily for expanded channels and getting it on the zero's with the clarifier mod. I don't realy need it, but it does make it easier. For quality of sound on ssb the Grants are nice radios. I have HF rigs as well, this is just fun for me. 2600, the jumper in the FC347? I'll look, I didn't think about that. Thanks again. |

Hi Keith, Thanks for the offer on the owner's manual, but that's the part I have. What I miss is the service manual, with the component location and foil pattern diagrams, and Uniden part numbers. The owner's manual didn't include that level of detail. And Jellybean, congratulations. Just goes to show that if you get enough of the details right, stuff will work. 73

Please excuse my typo error that's 26.965.0 for channel one. Keith in Atlanta: the Cobra 148F is the same radio as the Cobra 148 GTL and Grant XL and after the channel and clarifier mod has been done to a 148 GTL or Grant XL-LT it's nice to have a frequency counter. |
