i have my radio that I set to a 3 watt dead key, swings to about 12 or so. When i talk it stays between 4 and 6 watts. Is this ok to drive the texas star with. ALso I use this to drive a xforce 400, can I use vr1 inside the texas star to set the dead key of the texas star rather than re tuning my radio |

I run my 500v with 3 watts in swinging to 30. This gives me 150+ dead key swinging to 450+. I think that 3 watts is fine. What TS are we talking about? I would adjust the radio, not the amp. I think you are local to me so give me a shout out on 15am or 38lsb. Usually I am on 15am. I will try to help you some more. RFIcon. |

Looks like you can adjust some of them from inside the amp. http://www.texasstar.com/export/specifications.html It says you can run 4 watts swinging to 20 into the modulator, but I find a little less works better. I think 3 would be good. What radio are you using? It might be able to swing a little more. Talk to ya on the radio. RFIcon |

Is there any way to take a texas dx-250 with wire windings in t-1 t-2 t-3 t-4 circuts and replace with just a crystal for frequency control ? and is there any way to adjust the relay for longer operation when its in ssb mode? the amp delay is real short about a 1/3 of a second , you have to talk real fast. |

cap might be bad, with SSB switch in, my old 250 will stay keyed with no modulation til i unkey it. |

SSB delay is set by an electrolytic capacitor that is active only when the [SSB] switch is pushed-in. You can extend the delay by replacing the capacitor with one with a larger value. |

Thanks for the info will have the capacitor changed. Would a vfo work for freq. coverage in the amp, out board mount on case & a antenna tuner?? just an Idea,, |

These solid-state amps have broad-band input and output transformers covering usually 3MHz to 30MHz. If you are having problems with harmonics, you can add low-pass filters after the radio and after the amp. |

Hello, I recently purchased a White Line DX400v amp used, and have not been able to find out much info. about it. Is that simillar to the Texas star 400V? I also am not sure how many watts I should be driving it with? My Gallaxy 77HML is set to key about 3.5-4 watts on low and that is where I've been running it to be safe.Thank You! |

I have a TS DX-250 originally equiped with 2sc2290's. When i got the amp they were bbq'ed so i dropped in some srf2072's( 3 in 65 out rf parts catalogue). My question is; if I drop in the 2879's, what resistance and capacitance values would have to be changed? I assume this is a common swap from a 2290 to a 2879, but i can see when DOUBLING the output from the 455's to the 2879's could get hairy. Any input would be wonderful. Thanks for some excelent reading material ;) and 73's mean n nasty, jacksonville fl am 11 |

Xmean_n_nastyx1 THIS IS HOW I'D DO A (2)2SC2879. BASICALLY WITH WHAT YOU HAVE I'D CHANGE THE COLLECTOR TRANSFORMER TO A 1.5" 4T WRAPPING. 4T ALSO FOR THE BASE T.F. LEAVE THE 10 OHM RESISTOR ALONE ON THE BASE. DELETE THE 39OHM RESISTOR/.1UF CAP THAT MAKES NEGATIVE FEEDBACK. NOW FOR WHAT TUNES IT...WHERE THE INPUT MEETS THE BASE T.F. WINDINGS THERE IS A 91-100PF CAP, GO UP TO 120-150PF AND WHERE THE OUTPUT MEETS THE COLLECTOR T.F. WINDINGS GO THROUGH A 1000PF CAP BUT TEE OFF TO GROUND A 100 PF CAP ON THE T.F. SIDE OF THE 1000PF. SHOULD DO ABOUT 400W WITH 60-70W DRIVE THAT IS IF YOU'RE UP TO THE CHALLENGE. BE PATIENT 73'S COUCH SPUD HOUSTON,TX COUCH POTATOE'S MOBILE RADIO SVC
