I KNOW DK TO SWING SHOULD BE 4 YO 1 . I USE A 139XLR , DK 3 SWING TO 10 WITH A OLD MAVERICK 250. I RUN AMP ON LOW , WITH 1:1 TO 1:2 SWR . PROBLEM , EVERYONE , INCLUDING WIFE , TELL ME THAT I SOUND MUCH BETTER WHEN I TUNE AMP WHERE IT DK. 50 AND SWINGS JUST OVER 100 . INSTEAD OF DK. 25 AND SWINGING THE SAME . I HAVE TRIED THIS NUMEROUS TIMES FROM 10 TO 30 MILES AND THEY ALL INSIST IT IS MUCH STRONGER AND CLEARER THIS WAY . WILL IT HURT ANYTHING TO RUN IT WITH THIS RATIO INSTEAD OF 4:1 ? |

Nope. I think you found out that swing isn't the big deal some folks say it is. BTW - You aren't going to see the 4:1 swing on a meter. It's the ratio of carrier power to modulation PEP which is never an accurate reading on a meter. Watch average power output because that's much easier for a meter to show. From a dead key to a constant whistle you should see the power increase about 50%. So if you dead key 3 watts, with a constant whistle you should see 4.5 watts. |
