I am looking at both of these radios. Trying to decide which one I am going to get.
1. Which one is more stable concerning frequencies? Which one drifts less?
2. Which one has better AM audio?
3. Which one would be better for driving a DX500V?
My 2950DX is as stable as a rock, but my DX99V drifts for 10 or so minutes. My 2950DX is a much better sideband radio than my DX99V, but my DX99V kicks the 2950DX's butt on AM. I am looking for the best AM talker with the most stable frequencies(no drifting).
Any feed back would be appreciated.

rficon, saw your other post-you already have the rci6900-25. it is the same exact radio as your connex 4800dxl. the 6900ftb is a 150 watt radio like the 95t, the 93t is the same as the 95t just with 1/2 the power because it has 1/2 the amplifier section. neither galaxy nor the 6900ftb-100watt will work with the dx 500v. too much output. (actually, the 6900ftb & 95t are real good matches for the texas star dx 1600, you'd probably see close to 1000 watts swing using either radio! and the dx1200 you'd get about 800 with the same 2 & probably better then 650-700 with the 93t! don't let the ratings fool you, you're not gonna get 1200 or 1600 out of them! those radios are excellent matches for those amps!!)
mrbigshot's recommendation of the lincoln isn't a bad choice, either. just gotta make sure dead key is kept under 4 watts, & swing under 40 for the dx500v, using any radio.
if you got your heart set on the dx500v, i'd stick with your connex, if you absolutely don't like it & want something else, the only other choice out there is th magnum S9-built to be used with the dx500v.
i am not a galaxy person & wouldn't buy one. i have an S9-EXCELLENT radio! i chose it over a connex 4800/cobra 148fgtldx/rci6900 & i was
THISCLOSE to getting 1 of those instead. had a 2510-no complaints, but no standout either.

I like the connex, I just like to acquire radios. lol. I thought the 6900f-25 was a "smt" radio? The 4800 is not.
So the 93T(not the 95T) is too much for a 500v? I love my 99v, except for the 5 digit freq. counter.

i recomended the 2510 because of all the mobile radios ive ever used it was the #2 on am (much better than my galaxy 88 or connex 3300) and had the lowest front end noise i have used. i used to be a huge rci 29xx fan and had many, and i never noticed the noise they made. the noise i speak of is the static no signal noise. i threw the 2510 after unlocking it and i heard some really far of stations. i couldnt belive it so i threw the 2970 on the bench, fired up the signal generator and realigned the recieve side and it didnt help any. that was the first real eye opener that i have ever had. they are great radios but a little harder to operate than most, although a magnum 257 or 29xx or true hf rig can be diffacult if you dont know what does what.
i recomended the lincoln because its the same thing just more powerfull and still avialable new. |

yes,rficon, but it is still the same. smt may be more durable for the mobile user. maybe not. if you don't get some practice working on 'em, they can be frustrating when the soldering iron peels up the traces. but it's still the same radio.
both the 93 & 95 are too much for the DX500V.
yes mrbigshot, galaxy receive noise is what turned me back to unidens originally. when i was just a kid, i wanted the LOUD galaxy audio. then i realized i could make cobra/president radios just as loud & not get a headache from the excessive white noise screetch of my pluto's & galaxy II's. bought my 1st 2510 for that reason. without major surgery i think you can make the connex & galaxy's louder on AM then the 2510, but that's neither here nor there. to this day, my grant xl in my mobile can outhear a friends 2995 on an A99, & anothers 2970 parked right next to me flat out shows no signal & hears no audio from distant stations that are nearly booming in to my XL. of course i still swear my AR3500can outhear my XL with no antenna hooked up...
back to you, rficon, if you have never listened to the receive of the S9, you have got to do it! it is dead silent when the airwaves are quiet. you can hear stations with plenty of audio when they are so far off in the distance that they do not move the meter, yet some of the other 5 or 6 radios on my bench hear white noise & see static on the meter. except for my AR3500, the S9 outhears 'em all. can even give my icom a run for its money on AM! i kinda like the round meter, myself. the S9 is the same price as the 6900-25, and $30 more then the connex & lincoln. i'm glad i procrastinated as long as i did on trying to decide between the 4800 & 6900. i know i made the right choice with the S9. & the S9 was tailor-made for the DX500V. |

just make sure you get enough S9's in there,bc or your fired!
the S9 is what it is, it's not perfect for everybody, but it was apparently designed to be used in a particular way, & without any major mods it does what it was intended to do. & i do not like loud white noise!
