Hey ya'll got several Q's. first I took the weather band reciever out of an old cobra 29 (It died a hooorible death)I would like to put it in my new pc68xl (same board as the pc66) I know what wires power the thing so thats not a prob. I need to know where to hook up the audio output wires so the thing can be heard!! any help would be much appreciated. #2 I did some mods on the thing and for some reason the SWR went up! Is this normal never had it happen with the old cobra!! I run a 102" whip on my truck coax is ok everthing checks out fine but it BOTTTHHHERS me!! I am going to make a dummy load to double check the radio on the bench just 2 make sure the problem ain't in the radio I'm also going to buy a decent set of meters! I don't think my cheapy radio meters are telling the truth!! yes I spelled it that way on purpose!! after I find out if the rig is ok I was thinking about experimenting with a daul final setup in this thing. I know buy a radio I don' have 2 jack around with! But 2 me that's half the fun of this hobby is 2 see just whats possible Besides it keeps me out of the bar which makes my wife happy!! Any Idea's on this mod or some tech help would me appreciated. Thanks for listening and I'm glad 2 be apart of the copper forum been buying from them for years!! |

Weatherman, I have a Uniden PC 66 and a PC 68. The 66 is a much better radio in my opinion. My 68 has the 7 weather bands. I would love to take them out of the 68 and put them in the 66. so if this works for you from the cobra to the uniden, please let me know and tell me how you did it. Thanks. keith in Atlanta CEF 150 |

Kieth Hey man I'll let ya know how it goes! Im gonna try it sat evening so Ill post the results sat night some time be lookin for it I'm still waitin on some info on the swr prob and the daul final deal! as far as the 66 better than the 68 you may be slightly right the older 66's had a different final than the 68 and I noticed some resistor changes between the 2 I do like the mike in front tho' other than those slight diferences and the dsc the radio is the same I bought it at wally world and they didn't have the 68weather or I probably wouldn't bother. but i want the option and the 29 that died made a good doner! |

well I have found the prob about the high swr it has got to be the antenna system! I built the dummy load and put the cheapy meaters in line and I have a 1.2:1 swr with the radio at max out put. 18w pep not bad for a pc68xl I havent changed the driver or final yet I will let everyone know thew final outcome (1957 driver 1969 final)is what I plan on adding if you put these in the 29ltd I got around 25w pep. I would still like to hear something about a dual final setup in this radio and the weather reciever project will be done this weekend. Oh by the way the dummy load I built was ugly as a stick but it works (20 1K 1/2 watt carbon resistors) had alot of fun getting them all together. wish they were 10w so far they have stayed relatively cool and I'll build a better one later but for now they work. I would love 2 send a picture of this ugly thing but I don't have a digicam to load up on the computer. maybe later! well I will keep everyone posted on the weatherband radio project but for tonight I am happy. At least I know my radio is ok. |
