Hi guys. I have a Lafayette Telstat SSB 140 am/ssb forty channel base. No mods, No power, just good ole simple CB base station. I have a new Astatic 10 Da with the super sidebander head on it. ? is this: where do I put the mic gain on radio and where do I set the adjustment on the power that is under the mike? Is one turned up all the way and adjust the other? Thanks in advance.

I've got a Lafayette Telsat SSB-140 too. It's nearly perfect - not a scratch on it. I like the look of the aluminum face. It doesn't have the adjacent channel rejection that my Courier Centurion 40D has, but it's prettier.

I always run the mic gain on the radio at maximum. I adjust the mic to have enought output to fully modulate the radio when I close talk it in a slightly softer than normal volume so my voice sounds unstressed and relaxed. This method has a couple of advantages:

-Very little background noise is picked up because the amplification of the mic is low.

-The battery of the mic lasts a really long time.
