Alabamakid, go to the topic entitled "Product reviews", then click on the thread "Predator, stryker, etc antennas". Read the whole thread, near the end of the thread, you will see the Astatic antenna compared to all other antennas. Hope this helps. Wolverine. |

Thaks wolverine, great thread with lots of info. I believe I am going to have to buy a 3K. I had one in my hand the other day ready to walk to the register. I decided not to though. I had bever heard anything about them and didn't want to drop the money on it because I was afraid that all the hype that was on the package would not deliver what I was looking for. I came home and hav researched them and low and behold, I wish I would have bought it. The closet shop that has them about 50 miles from here. I guess I will have to make another trip back up there. Thanks for the info. |

No problem Alabamakid. I already own the Astatic 3k, and I love it. It's kind of heavy, so make sure that you purchase a sturdy mount for it. Nothing wrong with a little antenna research, to get the juices flowing. Wolverine. |

with a bit of messin' around, alabamakid, mine are 1.2:1 on 26.835, going up to just under 1.5:1 on 27.555. my usual freq is 835, so i tune for lowest there. 90 watts dead key on 835 on diamond sx100 meter shows just a bit over 1 watt reflected on 30 watt scale |

I will mess with it some more and try to bring it down. I have quite a bit of motor noise in my radio, that is something I am going to have to get out there and do something about first. The only thing I can think of that is not grounded is the exhaust. I am going to order some headers today, and I am also going to replace my flowmasters with a brand new set. When I get the exhaust work done I will ground it out. I just hope that its not the fule pump, I really don't think that I am up to messing with that. |

COAX-COAX-COAX-COAX-COAX-COAX-COAX-COAX-COAX-COAX did i say coax? high quality coax eliminated ALL the engine noise, heater noise, static, & no more idiot lights flashing at me, no more windshield wipers periodically waving at me, & i don't interfere with the stereo 1 bit, that was 150 watts on a mag mount with double shield rgx8. installed my davemade today, 700 watts & same results. then i changed to double shield 9913 to make sure power stays in my coax til it gets to my astatic 3kl. try some high quality/high % shield coax & see how much it helps! a magnum power cord filter would be my 2nd choice, i do use one, but i have no engine noise without the filter, the coax solved it all. |

I got my Astatic 3k hooked up today also. My match was over 3.0 on all channels. Got my old trusty continuity tester out, to test the coax. No continuity. Replaced the old coax with 18 ft of mini 8. Now I have a perfect 1.1 SWR. The antenna is mounted on a 3-pad mag mount. And transmits like the dickens. I just have to make sure that I route the coax through a cracked window, as opposed to the car roof and door, so that I won't slam this new mini 8 into submmission. Wolverine. |

One other thing Patzerozero, I see that you went from rgx8 to 9913. Maybe I'll try that in the future. As it stands now, I have no stray rf entering anything- stereo, engine computer, etc. And the mini 8 is flexible enough to twist or navigate the nooks and crannies in my vehicle. My magna force 350 coupled with the Astatic 3k is a marriage made in heaven, and it definitely outperforms my anttron A1700 hands down. Alabamakid, you might want to take the coax suggestion from Patzerozero. For now, I am happy. Wolverine. |

wolverine, i'm using same mount i think-not the proam w/close mags & covered in plastic, but 3 wide spaced w/plate raised about 3" & so239 under ball mount. i ran 9913 w/90degree L mounted center of roof inside roof rack, coax comes under rack, follows drip rail & at end it's notched enough for 9913 to bend around & go inside from top of liftgate with NO crimping of the cable at all! finally mounted my davemade, 250watts dead key with only 2 watts reflected on 26.835, & about 5 reflected on 27.555. 117 amp factory alternator & 4 guage--amp draws HEAVY current, swings 700+ & all is fine, turn up drive, dead key, etc & it puts too much strain on alt, but the extra watts are nice for a moment or 2! may be messing w/ computer @ FULL output, but a tuneup/new plug wires 1st & we'll see! santa, big trucks present their own tuning problems, but anything can be done. if road hazards may be encountered a spring may help as the astatic is BIG & HEAVY. good luck! |

I mounted mine on my tool box with a 6" pot belly spring. I took er out for a test drive and at highway speeds (70-80) it didnt bend back to bad. When I got up to 90-100 that sucker started doin a jig, it was dancin in a figure 8 motion. I figure I will just get me a new spring every year. I like the looks of the new shiney spring anyway. Heck they are only 15$ at Ratshack I may get one sooner than that if mine starts to rust. I will tell you what made me proud: I came through a traffic light 2 days ago and I heard the following conversation on my radio driver 1: did you see the antenna on that truck driver 2: no, what truck, was it a big truck or a four wheeler driver 1: It was a Chevrolet pick up, had the best looking antenna on it that I have ever seen. True story, I would have got back to them, but I was on the phone w/ my wife and it was valentines day so I could let her go to talk on the radio. |

Alabamakid, I'm enjoying the heck out of it. Talked to texas, arkansas, and oklahaoma today 2:10 P.M Pacific time, until skip faded. I glad that I have 3 of the best antennas on the market- Predator 10k, Wilson 5000, and the Astatic 3k. The Astatic is, a purdy looking antenna!. At least you found out the limits of mph your astatic can take before doing the hawaiian hula jig. Patzerozero, I have a 94 ford taurus, with a 110 amp stock alternator. My charging system can only tolerate no more than 230-240 dead key, using a borrowed 4 pill X-force + a driver, wired with 4 guage wire to the battery, before gremlins and poltergeists start mucking with the electronics. I went back to using a 2-pill 2879 magnaforce. Less headaches, dead batteries, and it still shoots some great skip. Wolverine. |
