Ok I had my tech turn down my radio to 1 watt. I whistle into it and it swings to 4 or so. Is that what it is supposed to do or can it do more. Also when I whistle the modulation goes a little over 100%, when I talk it's uaually around 100. is that good, 1 watt to 4. |

If it is a Bone Stock radio then yes that could be right. BUT, it all depends on the following; #1 ~ What make & model of radio are you using? #2 ~ Had the Radio been peaked and tuned before you had it turned down or is it 100% Stock from the Factory? #3 ~ Has your Modulation been adjusted or the Limiter Clipped? #4 ~ Also why did you have someone turn it down or for what reason? You want to try and have your modulation PEAK at around 100% NOT swing over 100%. With MORE information we can try and help you more. Lon Tech808 CEF808 N9OSN |

I think it's fine. Its a new uniden pc78 elite. The modulation is opened all the way and I figured out that the modulationi is much more than I though. The radio wasn't keying hish enough to let me set the modulation meter right. So yeah it's stock no swing kit or anything. Do those even work, i thought they just overmodulated everything. So yeah stock turned down modulation opened up all the way about 1 watt swing to 4 or a little more |

I tried turning my dead key back and messed my radio up. I had bought a Galaxy DX-959 from Copper and paid to have it peaked and tuned. Thats before I knew much about CBs. When I got it, it was awesome. 100% Modulatation and with power knob at lowest setting dead on 4 watts high about 12 or 14. Then I bought this 2 pill box and it seemed I was over driving it so I got on the internet and looked for mods for this radio and tried adjusting the different pots like it said. Everything went haywire. So I took it to the shop and the guy said he did all he could do. It dead keys 2 1/2 and swings about 18 and the best modulation I can get is about 35%. Even with this configuration I still get excellent reports from up to 25 miles barefoot and talk plent of skip with a little fire in the wire. Wish I could get better proformance but not reaaly complaining. Carlos |

Are you sure your getting only that amount of modulation. I only say this because is you are keying 2 1/2 watts and swinging beyond 5 or 6 watts then you are probably getting over 100% modulation. Make sure that you are calibrating your meter right. Lots of the times you have to have a 3 or 4 watt dk to give you the right reading |

Using the meter on the radio and also an Astatic 600, I get the same readings of around 35% barefoot. But with a little fire in the wire it jumps up to 100% or more. My SWRs jump up a little when I run the box on Med or High. Adjusted the 600 just like the book said. My wife says I should leave well enough alone, but I really would like it to be right, not half right. Thanks guys Carlos |

well a linear shouldn't make your modulation go up at all. What is happening most likely is that your radio isn't keying up at a high enough wattage for your meter. So when you run a higher dead key with your linear you are reading your true modulation because your meter is happy. |
