chainsaw, Why? Press the button, talk, it will sound good. I have listened extensively to the 257 thru other radios, don't worry, it sounds good, it's taken care of. |

Chainsawiowa, Sorry, but I do not remember seeing one for adding talkback to the 257. And YES there is an EXT Speaker jack on the back of the 257 for an external speaker. Lon Tech808 CEF808 N9OSN

OK I looked at the tape and I will have to try to take a picture of the board to get the locations. It is something like in my last post but not quit for a cobra.also you do not use a resister it is just hard wired.Give me a couple days and I will see what I can do. |

I could not get a good picture so I will try to explain how to install the talk back. take the covers off the radio and on the top side of the board just above the external speaker plug were the external speaker terminal solders to the board ,it is the very 1st solder joint inside the radio .solder one end of the wire to this location and then solder the other end to board ground.this will give you talk back.you can put a switch in line if you want to turn it off.the talk back is not very loud on my radio.if yours is to loud you can use a 50 to 100 ohm resister. to verify you have the right hookup at the speaker jack put a ohm meter to the solder joint of the ext, speaker jack to the outside of the plug hole for the external speaker and you will show coninuity. that is all there is to it. |
