Try replacing the chip-resistor r611 (47K) with a 10K resistor (it is supposed to be 10K but some boards went out with a 47k instead) . The resistor is on the CPU board.

wow, thanks professor,er i mean inspector! i have never heard of that fix. im guessing that more than "some" of the boards went out with the 47K, every 2950 i've ever encountered (less than 10) has had this problem. glad to hear of the solution. i'll try it just as soon as i get my new kl-300p installed.

I once had a 2950 that when you used the channel KNOB, sometimes it would SKIP a channel or two or three ( the UP/DOWN buttons on front of rig & on hand mike worked correctly )...was told the " insides of the channel knob needed cleaning " that " contaminants and dirt and etc had gotten in the insides of the knob where the micro-mini-electrical contacts are, resulting in the erratic performance. So we did that, and fixed it and it did not cost 2 cents, but a good hour to do it...from the time we took the cover off till it was put back on. so every now & then something can get fixed on a radio without cost.
