I am really new to the whole peak and tune deal, trying to learn more though. If I want to turn my radio down to run a linear set up is there one pot I can turn to bring the whole thing down, or do I just adjust the am power pots. I am workin on a pc78 elite |

it's a uniden pc78 elite, i know the specs on that I think, vr4 should be modulation, and L12,L13, and L14 should be am power. But to turn down my radio do I just turn those pots down till I ge the dk I want or what |

Audiophile73, Yes with a GOOD WATT Meter adjust L12, L13, L14 to the Dead key setting / power you want to use to drive the Amp. Unless the PC78 Elite has been peaked before it should be alright as it is set for 4 watts from the factory. As every Texas Star Amp I have ever seen is set to handle 4 watts you should have no problem. What Model of Texas Star Amplifier is it? Lon Tech808 CEF808 N9OSN |

its the texas star modulator, I am using it to drive a xforce 400 so I can't have the dk too high. Anyway I just got my radio and opened it up and found out that L12, 13 and 14 are coils. So how do I adjust those? |

get radio to dead key about 3 watts. if texas star is the VARIABLE modulator, test it first, and see what it dead keys 'on the clock'-lowest is probably @ about 7 or 8 o'clock, highest about 4-5 o'clock, and you want to make sure it is 'linear' over the clock, and if not, not what wattage is at each point. start with texas star dead keying 20 watts(don't concern yourself with swing) and see what the dead key on the xforce is. you want to put enough dead key from the texas star to get the xforce to key about 250 watts. what you are really going to get is hard to say, xforce claims the 4 pill will key 400 watts, but that's more like on 18 volts then 12. anyways, somewhere between 20 and 40 watts dead key out of the texas star should get you between 200 and 300 watts dead key from the xforce. the most dead key you'll get out of the texas star should be from 60-90 watts. a dosy meter is pretty inaccurate, pdc may be a step or 2 better. when you start playing with 'exotic' setups, you'll find you need accurate meters, to keep from blowing things up! I use decent meters & still manage to blow things up! your swing on an accurate peak reading wattmeter could be from 600-800 watts. three watts out of radio is max, 250 watts dead key out of xforce is also max, what ittakes from TS to get there is what you have to figure out. if it's more then 40 watts, stop & double check everything, it shouldn't take that much. |
