dead key is when you key your radio on AM with no modulation.. the only real advantage to a low dead key is so if you are running a linear you wont fry it.. unless you are running a HD high drive box.. those you can push 20-30 watts into them... |

I like low dead key so I don't waste electricity when I am not modulating. If you talk a couple of hours every day for a month, you WILL see a difference on the electric bill between talking with high dead key versus low dead key. Enough savings in a year to buy a new RCI 2950 each year!!$$$$ |

The net says average cost of electric in CA is $.096 Per KWH That means you would save 2593.23 KWH (if you bought your 2950 from Copper) by lowering your dead key. This is 7.10 KWH a day (365 days) Which would mean if you talk 2 hrs a day then your amp is pulling 3410 Watts LESS from the wall than it was if you had a higher dead key. Lowering your dead key causes your amp to pull 31A less at 120V or 15A less at 240V? What kinda amp you runnin? My calculations may be off but I checked twice, $.096/KWH seems high but if it were lower then the current draw figure would go up considerably. |

AND I forgot to add, That's for a straight 2 hour key, Duty cycle is a variable I forgot to factor in. |
