Just something I was curious about .... before the storm toppled mine I had no problem getting a basically perfect SWR on ANY band when using a MFJ-941E... I thought the A99 couldnt work that low with a tuner?!? I'm talking way down at 40/80 meters. How's that possible? |

if you have a good quality antenna tuner, you can tune an uncooked piece of spaghetti. the only way to tell if the antenna is working well is to make contacts with it when conditions are really bad. |

I use my tuner a lot but the problem with tuners is the farther you move away from center frequency the more losses you get untill you get almost nothing out. |

I get a decent SWR with my I-Max 2000 and an MFJ 949-E antenna tuner all the way down to 75/80 meters. But that doesn't mean the antenna will actually work there. In my case I can tune 20 meters to a 1.1.1 SWR and it works ok there, but it's noisey. It works great on 10,12,15, and 17 meters with or without the tuner. On 40 meters I have a near flat SWR with the Tuner, but when I was trying to use it there, I was told the signal was weak, and that I sounded garbled and off frequency. I haven't tried anything below 20 meters since, just being on the cautious side. E-Ham product reviews say the A-99 will cover 6 meters through 20 meters with a tuner. But most reviews have reported good results only on 10,12,15 and 17 meters with usable but poor results on 20m with the A-99. There where a few reports using it on 6 meters too. A few have said that it works on 40 meters too, but it was only a few out of probably 100 plus reviews made that claim. I would be interested in seeing what the antenna will really do. Bruce maybe you could try it and see what your results are. Anyway you look at it, the A-99 covers a lot of ground for what is supposed to be a CB antenna. Normally you would pay a few hundred dollars for an antenna that will cover that much band width.
